Mangaluru, Apr 20: Three people including a lecturer were arrested by police for an objectionable post against a lecturer tarnishing her image.
The arrested are identified as Prakash Shenoy (44) from Beltangady who is a college correspondent, Pradeep Poojary (36) from Siddakatte, an economics lecturer and Tharnath Shetty (32) from Udupi, a physical director of the college.
Addressing media, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “The college administration and lecturers had differences over appointments in the college. In this regard, the accused created a poster of a lecturer claiming her to be a prostitute and added her contact details and email ID to the same. Firstly, the accused sent an inland letter with objectionable and abusive content to all the colleges, principals, lecturers under Mangalore University claiming the victim to be a prostitute.
“Later, the accused displayed a poster which included her photo, contact details and got them posted at bus stands and public toilets in Sullia, Sampaje, Subrahmanya, Chikkamagaluru, Mudigere, Madikeri, Mysuru, Balehonnur, Shivamogga and many other places.
“The victim received repeated calls, messages and emails with abusive comments. The victim was mentally harassed over repeated calls since then,” he said.
Speaking to media, the victim said, “I came to know about this issue in December 2021. Since February, I am receiving constant calls and messages asking to indulge in prostitution claiming that they have got my contact details in a poster displayed in a public toilet. I received around 800 phone calls since the poster became public. I was totally unaware over what was happening.”
The victim had left the college in Bantwal five years ago and was promoted to another reputed college in Mangaluru. The victim has over 35 years of experience and completed doctorate with UGC grade and bagged three state awards.
