Mangalore, Feb 8: Zilla panchayat member of BJP, K T Shailaja Bhat, came out victorious in the election to the post of the Zilla panchayat president at the Netravathi hall of Zilla panchayat, held here on Tuesday February 8.
She will be the president of Zilla panchayat for the first phase of 22 months.
The election was conducted by the show of hands. Election commissioner M V Jayanti conducted the election, assisted by assistant commissioner Prabhakar Sharma.
Dhanalaxmi Janardhan D of BJP defeated congress nominee, Yashavanthi Alva for the post of the vice-president. Nobody withdrew as ten minutes of time was given after the nomination.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and district BJP president, Padmanabha Kottari congratulated K T Shailaja and Dhanalaxmi Janardhan on their victory. The president and vice-president affixed their signature in a register to conform their choice.
The term of the winning candidates in the post will be from 8-2-11 to 7-10-12.
