Hubballi violence: Police arrest Moulvi Waseem Pathan from Mumbai

Hubballi, Apr 22 (IANS): Karnataka police on Thursday arrested Moulvi Waseem Pathan in connection with the Hubballi communal violence.

Pathan was found instigating the mob in a video obtained by the police. He has been brought to the Old Hubballi police station for questioning.

Pathan had released a video on Thursday morning, claiming that he is innocent. He stated in the video that he climbed atop a police vehicle as per the instructions of the cops to pacify the crowd.

In the four-minute video released from an undisclosed location, he maintained that he was appealing to violent mobs to maintain peace.

"I have not instigated anyone and there is a conspiracy against me. The video that is out is a fabricated one," he said.

According to police sources, Pathan was taken into custody in Mumbai. The accused was in touch with his associate in Hubballi and based on the clue, the cops traced his location in Mumbai and arrested him.

The police have arrested 126 persons in connection with the incident so far.

The violence erupted in Hubballi in north Karnataka late on Saturday night following the surfacing of an objectionable post on social media.

Anti social elements like (only few) these in position of influence focussing on destructive means to disturb the society. Imagine if they use their position to guide minority youth to pick up books instead of stones, and ask minority women to study. Education will lead to minority Muslims to come to mainstream learn from the Christian Fathers Brothers and Sisters in church and convent. They have Major contribution to the development of coastal area in education, healthcare and guiding the society towards progress.

I watched him video. The same thing happened in D J Halli incident. Those who tried to pacify the crowd upon request of police were later arrested on charges of instigating violence. There is saying "Police ki na dosti acchi aur na dushmani" Can't trust these guys even for a second. To save themselves tomorrow they will make their own men target. There should be multiple video recordings if police asks to step in to pacify the crowd. Even after having videos still innocent were arrested. Until the coury decides they have to be in jail. That's the sad part of this country where our forefathers fought and given their life only to see discrepancies against minorities.

At the outset this fiasco looks like a one sided vendetta... Much more scathing and inciting speeches were given by Mr. Bhat and likes... Need of the hour is promoting peace and harmony among sections of society... This type of unilateral drubbing of weaker sections will only boomerang...
