Mangalore, Feb 10:
Bhavya Poojarthi of Kalla Mudkur ward-9 has been elected as the President of Dakshina Kannada Taluk Panchayat with 19 votes while congress candidate Surekha Chandrahas could muster 18 votes and Vijaylaxmi Shetty of Ganjimutt ward-20 was elected as Vice-President with 19 votes while her rival Marina Lavina Vegus secured 18 votes.

The election was held at the Taluk Panchayat hall on Thursday February 10 and these two will be in power for the first phase. The election was conducted by the show of hands. AC Prabhulinga Kavalikatte conducted the election. The president and vice-president affixed their signature in a register to confirm their choice. Later speaking to presspersons the winning candidates said that they will work towards the eradication of chaos that has taken place in RTC distribution process in taluk panchayath.


 

The newly elected president Bhavya Poojarthi is a resident of Kalla Mudkur village of Mangalore taluk. She is a degree holder from Besant Women’s College. Vice president Vijayalaxmi Shetty is a resident of Mogar Kere in Ganjimutt. She is an agriculturist. She was also officiating as the member of Ganjimutt Gram Panchayath, and president of Dharmastala Gramabhivruddhi Yojana.
