Udupi: Protest Rally Held against Justice Somashekar Report

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (VA)

Udupi, Feb 13:  The International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA), Bangalore, Udupi and Indian Catholic Organization jointly organized a Protest Rally on Saturday February 12 opposing the ‘Justice Somashekar Report’ regarding church attacks at several places in state.

The protest was organized with support from Komu Souharda Vedike, Udupi, District Minorities Committee, Karnataka Dalitha Sagarsha Vedike Udupi, Catholic Sabha, ICYM and Muslim Okutha, Udupi among others.

The rally commenced from Jodukatte, near taluk office and proceeded towards KM Marga Udupi, service bus stand, Bannake Route and finally reached DC office.

David Simiyon, former speaker Karnataka Legalities Council, Bangalore was the one of the chief speaker on the occasion. Condemning the Commission’s report he said, today’s protest voice should reach the Chief Minister of state through former home minister and the present state higher education minister Dr V S Acharya. He also accused Acharya of supporting the decision of the Commission and also the police for obeying Acharya without realizing the feelings of the community members.

He further said that after the CM came to power in state many such unethical incidents have taken place. He questioned where the CM was when thousands of people converted to Jainism, Buddhism and other religions. He quoted the example of union minister Malikarjun’s wife on this context. He called all the organizations for a bigger protest rally on February 20 in Mangalore. He also demanded CBI inquiry in this incident.

Rajshehkar, president Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike Udupi said that Justice Somashekar failed to bring out the truth behind the incident.

K L Ashok, Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike, Bangalore said that the report was expected to be the same when there was such a government in power. When real culprits have made the statement openly, then why the Commission has not declared it, he questioned. He promised whole hearted support and co-operation to all the priests and church authorities. He also said that RSS is the real terrorist in this society.

Fr Baptise Menezes Espicoal Vicar of Udupi released the similar report done by Justice M F Saldhana, retired judge of High Court on the church incident. M F Saldhana, in his address said that the report by justice Somashekar is the shame on Indian Judiciary. This report is full of false statements.  After spending around 11 cores for the Commission the end result is a zero, he lamented. He said that the incident is one of the worst incident in the entire world.

Pramodha Madhavraj, U R Sabhapathi, Deviprasad Shetty, Ghori Lakeshe among others were present during the protest. Denis D’Silva, Karnataka State conveyor IFKCA Bangalore among others have submitted a memorandum to DC through Tasildar of Udupi

As many as 7,000 people attended the protest rally.  Lewis Lobo, president IFKCA, welcomed the gathering, Neri Cornelio proposed the vote of thanks. Vincent Alva compered.

We have  to just hope and pray that there will be justice and equality. I was caught in the deadly scene in Mangalore on 14Sept2008. I will never forget that horrifying moments of my life when me and my friend were busy shopping in Hampankatta and suddenly crowd of people started pushing and rushing scared of people chasing them. Me and my friend thought we will be attacked too. We didnt know if we should stay inside the shop or go out. The shutters were pulled down forcibly. By God's grace we came rushing till Statebank. No autos or buses were stopping... We just gasped for breath and ran. We finally found a calm and quiet Auto Driver.. He said he will take us through a different route. One more lady who was also stranded on the street asked for help. Me and my friend willingly took her along... We three in the auto were silently wondering whats happening and I realised that we three in the auto belonged to 3 different communities... It was a shocker.. That indeed explains that the divide is only the master mind of the evil, the powerful and politically motivated people... We all are just the sufferers.. Thankfully we all reached home safely..Sep 14th will always be a nigthmare for us.

I remember the chasing and beating inside prayer hall (I assume it to be) of unarmed people seen in media by law and order force till today and the memory will remain for ever in my mind because it was such a raw incident and I wonder what could have caused such a situation. Horrible Mr. Justice.

We have turned into a "lawless" society. The (in)justice somashekhar report on violence against Christians in Karnataka confirms that even ex members of the judiciary
cannot be trusted for truthful enquiry & honest reporting. The perpetrators of the violence, the members of the police who let loose terror on hapless christians for protesting the vandalism & violence, the R sene/parivar, the BJP govt in charge, are ALL culpable & are liable & will be held accountable.
The (in)justice report of somashekhar has already severely tarnished the image of the justice system. All those guilty will pay, all in it's own time. They WILL NOT get away.

Justice to the minorities or the poor dosent exsist in our country.

You peace loving people will not benefit anything but humilation. It is scripted that anyone with power and money will get justice the way he likes it. Eventhough we live in this democratic country justice has never been done many a time. Moral of the Story" Money power and political power wins" .

It would have been wise for Injustice Somashekar to withdraw himself atleast halfway rather than come up with a report that demonstrates his fear and stupidity. How could he write that BJP, Sangh Parivar white that facts spoke louder than words? He will have to live with the curse and shame he has brought on himself. Peaceful protests are a welcome gesture. Instead of resorting to violence, silent and non-violent protests are recommended means to obtain justice.

The BJP govt of Karanataka under the circumstances can't do more than this and Christians required to take the issue to HC asking for the CBI enquiry is only solution left. However keeping pressure on to present Govt by the way of non voilence demo is the last resort with secular and like minded NGOs.

It is because the corrupt people like Somashekhar and Dinakaran dominate the judiciary the people do not get justice and corruption rules the nation. These are greater enemies of India than those come with AK47 and must be punished suitably.

Deshpremi, Mumbai, It’s obvious that opposition parties will participate in this rally, because attacks where planned by ruling BJP govt, final reports are contradictory to formal reports given by same commission. The BJP has forced the commission to twist the report the way want to be. Ur comments are not of Deshpremi, but of DeshDrohi.

We are peace loving people, we won’t burn effigies or damage our national property, the way BJP supporters did in recent bandh. We believe in God and he will bring justice to the unjust. That will come soon n the whole world will watch it. Just see how this shameful govt is wiped out from Karnataka.

It is true that christians are peace loving people and not doing harm for the society. You can see in all corner of the state christian people are showing courtesy and helping hand for all communities and looking all people as thier brothers and sisters. But Yeddi and followers are taken them as granted to create tension among us as they are in power. Satan is always doing wrong instead of good thing and asking to do more. Remember the days are not far to come out with real truth. One day or other we have to face with God what we have done in our real life. People are not realizing what they are doing in this world, this world is not permanent for anybody. Remember, inch by inch we have to give our account with God without fail. God bless you all christians.

The non violent and peace loving nature of christians is perceived as their weakness by the Sangh Parivar/BJP govt. Yeddy and his team have taken for granted that christians are dumb and blind. Let them know that we too are legitimate and rightful citizens of a secular and democratic country. We do not ask for any favour but are only fighting for our rights. We will not rest until justice is done. After all India stands for "Sathyameva jayathe"
