Dubai: 'Caring and sharing' is Mangalore Konkans' Way...
Dubai, Feb 13: Known as one of the well reputed organizations around the world, ‘Mangalore Konkans’ which is doing yeoman service for the development of Konkani language and the society in the last 22 years has continued its motto of extending helping hand to the needy yet again, with the concept 'Caring and Sharing with Love'.
This time, the organization has taken up the task to contribute something for the purpose of education. To be precise, it has donated Rs 10 lac for the setting up of two class rooms at AIMIT, a unit of St Aloysius College which is emerging as one of the leading management institutions at Beeri, Mangalore.
In a formal function held at the India Club premises, on Feb 12, 2011 evening, here the president of Mangalore Konkans, Santosh Nazareth, along with other key members of the organization handed over the cheque to Fr Denzil Lobo, who has put every effort to make AIMIT a top class educational institution.
Fr Denzil Lobo presented before the audience a brief record of activities, other facts and figures of AIMIT. He emphasized, that the sole objective of the institution is to build strong leaders for the future and take Mangalore city greater heights in the world map. He hoped to see the institution among the India's top 10 educational hubs.
Fr Swebert D'Silva, principal of St Aloysius College was the guest of honour. He thanked the people of UAE for supporting St Aloysius College. “I am extremely happy to meet you all, not just because you are the great achievers, or well respected people of the community, but for your caring and sharing nature”, he expressed. He urged each and everyone to continue their love and support for the institute.
Consul Francis Xavier (Community Affairs), Indian Consulate for Dubai was the chief guest for the occasion. He lauded the Mangalorean community for their caring and sharing thoughts. He made a special mention of Mangalore Konkans who helped the people in need whenever the Consulate asked for their help.
President Santosh Nazareth, vice-president Linus Moras, and secretary Lilly Almeida were present on the dais.
Earlier, Mangalore Konkans presented a brief report of their 22 years of journey. Through Caring and sharing programme, Mangalore Konkans have recently supported CODP, Mangalore, Father Muller Hospital Mangalore (for Cancer patients), and in instituting Sandesha Music Award in memory of the well known singer Wilfy Rebimbus, among others.
The much awaited DVD of Gulf Voice of Mangalore was released during the event. Consul Francis Xavier released the DVD.
Well-known veteran singer and composer Lawrence Saldanha who was in his visit to UAE was invited for the event. His musical album comprising of 130 songs was released by entrepreneur Michael D’Souza and Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief, Daijiworld.com.

Earlier, Valerian Peris made special mention about the sponsors of Mangalore Konkans who supported the organization throughout 22 years of their journey.
Frank Fernandes of Mosaco Shipping Company spoke ‘words of wisdom' during the event. Rajesh Sequeira and Valerian Peris jointly compered the event. Santosh Nazareth welcomed the gathering and Lilly Almeida proposed the vote of thanks.
