Mangalore:  Radio Mirchi’s Unique Celebration Amid Low Key V-Day in City

Mangalore, Feb 14: Though Valentine’s Day turned out to be a low key affair in city with only a few couples turning up to celebrate, the Radio Mirchi, city’s popular Radio station made an unique effort to make the day memorable.

The Radio Mirchi team arranged a humorous wedding of Onion (Kempa) and Garlic (Whity). Kempa is an innocent character who always cries and is very emotional and whity is sportive and jovial.

“We decided to arrange for the wedding of Onion and Garlic when their prices were soaring high in the market.  Radio Mirchi always believes in giving something different”. The purpose of holding such a concept was just to make the V-Day memorable, says Vishwas kamat, programming controller of the station.

Defying the tall claims of groups both in favour and against celebration of Valentine's Day, the day passed off peacefully in the city. Some minor attempts to disrupt the peace were foiled by police. The presence of couples in the parks was though even less than on usual days. Kadri Park which is one of the favourite places in city for couples wore a deserted look today.

The restaurants, streets and malls usually preferred by couples, missed the charm expected on a day devoted to love. While couples preferred to stay away from public places which could have been a target of the radical groups opposing the day, absence of many Valentine's Day events kept the festivities a low-key.
The police had maintained a tight security at the possible targets of hardliners and those opposing them in the city.
