Bantwal, May 3: A stranger called a doctor and asked him to download an app from Google Play ostensibly, in order to update the latter's Jio mobile number. Once the doctor did so, the fraudster withdrew Rs 1.65 lac from the doctor's account in a different transaction.
According to a complaint filed in the CEN station of the district by Dr B Ashwin Baliga of Kids Care centre near B C Road in the taluk, a stranger called him at around 5.30 PM on April 29 from mobile number 9348699702 and said that he needs to update the Jio mobile number of the doctor. He asked Dr Baliga to download the 'Quick Easy' app from Google Playstore. Once it was done, the stranger asked Dr Baliga to recharge Rs 10 on My Jio App. The doctor did the same by putting HDFC debit card details and recharged for Rs 10.
Within no time, without the knowledge of the doctor, the online fraudster withdrew Rs 10, 000 three times and Rs 45, 000 three times. In total, Rs 1,65,000 was transferred to the account of the fraudster.
CEN police are investigating further.
