Udupi: Protestors Stage ‘Rail Roko’ at Local Railway Station

Udupi, Feb 15: Agitated over the cold-shouldering of their persistent demands for extending Bangalore-Mangalore train to Karwar, or at least to divert some of the compartments of the said train to Karwar, and angered at the diversion of the train to Kannur instead, the protestors staged ‘Rail Roko’ agitation at the local railway station on Tuesday February 15. They were also angry at the non-tabling of the proposal to divert some of the compartments of the said train to Karwar, contrary to previous assurances, at the pre-budget meeting held recently at Pune.

The protestors led by Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha president, R L Dias, and local MLA, Raghupati Bhat, stopped Ernakulam - Pune ‘Poorna Express’ train for about 30 minutes at the railway station.



On this occasion, Raghupati Bhat said that they had staged the protest symbolically today to send a clear signal to the authorities concerned that the people of the district will not tolerate injustice. He asked the railways to include the proposal to extend the Bangalore-Mangalore train to Karwar in the next budget. He warned that if the proposal does not find a place in this budget, protests will be organized on the next day of the presentation of the budget itself all over the district, and that all the trains moving through the town will be stopped at the local station for 24 hours.

Former MLA, U R Sabhapathy, R L Dias, district BJP president, Udayakumar Shetty, municipal vice-president, Bharati Chandrashekhar, zilla panchayat president, Katpady Shankar Poojary,  JDS district president, Deviprasad Shetty, representatives of a number of organizations, retired government officials etc, participated in the protest.

The protestors were arrested and released later.

    This agitation led by useless politicians of the district and submitting a memorandum to the railway minster will be of no use and mere a waste.The process ends there itself.Go and learn from Keralites how to get the things done.

    As per me ,no use of blamming on railway dept.we should blame our non sense politicians who is representing south canara and udupi in parliment.wht sadananda gowda,dhananjaya kumar,veerappa moili,janardhana poojaari,sorake,ramanatha rai and now our new MP Mr Kateel did for our district? nothing just sleeping inside the parliament.they have to learn from devegowda and sons ,pl go and see hassan once,its growing like anything .even bigger than mangalore!!!!!.they drag lot of facilities to hassan.first we should ban our politicians to enter our district.one thing we should keep in mind tht all our district politicians are use less idiots....

    The railway stations in South Kanara are used mostly by Keralites, the Mangalore Central station is used by Keralites, there are more trains to Kerala than other parts of South Kanara or even Karnataka. On a daily basis we cannot have local trains plying between Udupi/Mangalore or Karwar/Mangalore we have to travel by road. Depend on the private buses. There are many Keralites coming from Kerala on a daily basis to Mangalore, but people from Mangalore and Udupi distict do not have this chance. If there is we have to depend on the out- station trains. The authorities should look into this matter. All the best Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha on your MISSION.

    It's not advisable to cause any inconvenience to the passengers but, at the same time strongly recommend Express Train between B'lore to Karwar.
    Best thing is to stop the Railway Minister going to the budget session at Delhi untill she clears this route!!!
    Don't trouble the poor passegers!!!

    MR Sadanad gowda should adrress his constitunecy issues with the railway ministry in delhi !!!!Believe me none of the people who are protesting have ever used these trains !!!!
