Kundapur, Feb 17: This medicinal farm has the potential of being crowned as the ‘Chithrakoota’ of the modern world. Chitrakoota, found in legends, is famous for medicinal plants. A variety of medicinal plants, trees, shrubs and herbs, like nutmeg, red sandal, hogweed, and mace, are grown at a medicinal farm that has come up in a land measuring 17 acres in Aloor village of Kundapur taluk.

The fame of this farm has even reached far-ff countries like France and Switzerland. The power behind this ‘Chithrakoota’ is a young and enthusiastic person, Dr Rajesh Bairy, who is driven by the zeal to heal the ailing people. Dr Bairy is the son of Mahabala Bairy, a progressive farmer, well-known as the harbinger of organic farming in this region.

A visitor glancing at the medicinal farm cultivated by Dr Bairy, is sure to notice the kind of hard work being put in by him. After the completion of his degree course in Ayurveda from Aroor Laxminarayana Rao Ayurveda Medical College of Koppa, Bairy came to his native place. He not only grows medicinal plants but also prepares medicines on his own.

He had dreamt of making his plantation a realm of medicinal plants during his student life itself. Medicinal plants are grown by him amidst areca nut, coconut, and cashew nut trees.

Rajesh Bairy’s concern for the people of his small village has made him to think of choosing his own people for treatment, instead of opening a clinic in a city. ‘Chitrakoota’, which is a propitious endeavour of this doctor, has proved itself to be a hope for the poor patients from the region.

There are about 300 varieties of medicinal plants in Chitrakoota, some of which are ‘Nagashekara’, Pinari, Ranna, Arjuna, Punarnava, Bruthika, Kiratha, Nellikai, Panchapatre and Madhiphala. Dr Bairy aims at increasing the number of medicinal vegetation grown in his farm to 400, including an exclusive plantation for growing Indian gooseberry (Nellikai).

Dr Bairy himself prepares medicines by using the extracts of these plants, and offers treatment for all types of ailments. His wife, Dr Anulekha, also assists him in his endeavour. Dr Bairy has amazed everyone through his distinctive services. He also extends ‘Pancha Karma’ method of treatment to the needy. People from France, Switzerland, Bangladesh among other countries, have visited his ‘Chithrakoota’ to get treatment for their ailments.

Dr Rajesh Bairy, who has completely dedicated himself to agriculture and growing of the medicinal plantation, is just 27-year-old.

Speaking to ‘Daijiworld’, Dr Bairy said that about 95 % of poisons (toxins) found in our body enter the body during the consumption of contaminated food. He observes that these days, our food gets poisoned due to the use of chemicals in the fields, and that it is inevitable to use medicinal plants to detoxify the accumulated poison from the body of a sick person. He asserts that this kind of system was prevalent in every household of the region in the past. “Taking cue from this, we have made a sincere effort to make use of such medicinal plants for improving the health of the people,” he said.

Dr Bairy treats various ailments including skin diseases and joint pain. He generally puts the patients through a lifestyle change routine of one to two weeks, involving walking, consumption of herbal tea and food at specified timing, advising them against taking a nap in the afternoon, and such other changes as may be found necessary, depending on the health condition of the patients.

Great work. I would like to visit this farm hopefully.

Multinationals and big pharmaceutical companies make a multicolor label and more attarctive packaging and simply triple their price. If few locals join hand to improve production and distribution of the products then it can generate the revenue in the village itself.

It is great job. As I know some illness can be cured by Ayurveda with out any side effect. As we all know there is nothing is availanle ORGANIC these days and every thing is cotaminated by viruses, pestitides, polution, and dirty water a little precaution is required when medication preparing time. This is my request so we all will be taken care in right way. Keep it up and go ahead with more research. Good Luck.
