Derik's Chess School Champs Rule at State-level Tourney

Mangalore, Feb 22: The whiz-kids of Derik's Chess School have once again brought laurels to their city and to the institute with their excellent performances in the recently-held state Rapid Chess Championship.

Sharan Rao (FIDE rating:1703) scored 6 points in 9 rounds and was placed top among the sub-junior players.

Vivekraj (FIDE rating: 1606) also secured 6 points and bagged the runner up spot among sub-junior players.

Anantharam R U (FIDE rating: 1744) was placed 4th among sub-junior players with 6 points to his credit. Karnataka under-17 girls champion 13-year-old Andria D'Souza (FIDE rating: 1708) scored 5.5 points and was adjudged best woman player of the event.

    'Congratulations' to Derik's Chess School. I have many times participated chess tournaments thru your chess school. Chess as a tool to develop our young childrens minds. During the school days young childrenes joining chess school an important and valuable part in the life of the school. Chess makes young children smarter and sportsmanship. Also chess help develop patience and thoughtfulness and most powerful educational tols available to strengthen a child's mind. Well done young players. 'Chess talent is a gift of God'.
