Dubai, Feb 27: 'Daiji Dubai,' a forum for Konkani writers in the UAE that has created a niche for itself since its inception, will be celebrating its 12 glorious years at the Shiekh Rashid Auditorium, Dubai on April 29 this year.

A host of popular Konkani singers and comedians have been lined up to entertain over 1,500-strong audience from around the UAE at the 'Daiji Darbar - 2011' anniversary celebrations.

'Daiji Dubai,' a forum of like-minded Konkani writers from around the UAE was formed in the year 1999 under the leadership of  Dayan D'Souza. The forum consists of around 30 young and veteran writers who are doing yeoman service to Konkani language and culture. Every year since its formation, it has been giving Rs 50,000 cash award and recognition to leading Konkani writers who have consistently contributed to the Konkani language and culture.

This year the award will be presented to Dr Gerald Pinto (Gerry Niddodi), who is currently a lecturer at Milagres College Kallianpur.

Henry Dsouza and Nephie Rod

As part of the entertainment, veteran Konkani singer Henry D'Souza - who has performed hundreds of shows in India and abroad, with a number of audio albums to his credit, and best known for superhits 'Katrina' and 'Ami Dogo Sezara,' - will be the prime attraction along with popular female voice Nephie Rod of Bollywood fame. Nephie has been one of the finest voices in Konkani, popular among Goan and Mangalorean music lovers worldwide.

Keny

Kenny (Kenneth Zuzarthe), who mesmerised the packed audience two years ago during Daiji Dubai's 10th anniversary celebrations, will be back on popular demand. Apart from performing his well-known numbers, he will also come up with some new songs.

Daiji Dubai has taken the initiative to introduce two of the latest singing talents for the first time in the Gulf, though they have been regular artistes around Mumbai and Mangalore. Antony Tauro, who won many hearts with his very first album 'Mog Kone Dekla', touted as one of the best selling albums in recent years, has been widely accepted by music lovers for his unique lyrics and quality of music. Antony Tauro has already performed in over 10 musical nites in India, apart from rendering his voice in a number of audio albums.

Antony Tauro and Munita Veigas

Young female sensation, Munita Veigas, a final year student of St Agnes College, became popular among Konkani music buffs for her voice and presentation, after the encouragement and support extended by Wilfy Rebimbus, with whom she performed several musical nites. She has also perfomed alongside Melwin Peris, Claud D'Souza and other noted Konkani singers.

Jerry - Duje

Jerry-Duje pair (Jerry Rasquinha and Joseph Pinto), acclaimed as the best comic duo in Konkani presently, will spark laughter riots among the audience with a string of delightful jokes. Those who had attended the 2009 Daiji Dubai show will surely remember the quality of these artistes in the field of acting and comedy.

Dance aficionados too will not be disappointed as Ocean Kids, Dubai's professional dance troupe, will perform some spectacular numbers.

Ramiro

UAE's talented young and energetic musican Ramiro, who has already accompanied renowned artistes, will provide the music along with his troupe.

The three-hour non-stop show will provide money's worth of entertainment on April 29.

More details about the performing artistes and other attractions will be made available on daijiworld.com, which is the official webportal of the event.
