Puttur, May 24: City station police arrested three people in connection with possession of ganja.
Two accused were standing near railway tracks with ganja in bag. The cops first arrested the duo and based on the information provided by them, apprehended the third accused.
The arrested accused are identified as Shafiq K V, resident of Kuntoor Perabe village in Kadaba, Razik, resident of Kuntoor Ermala and Mohammed Mawaz, resident of Vittal Kundadka, who used to supply ganja to the carriers.
Acting on a tip off, city police station SI Nasreen Taj and personnel went to Veeramangala railway tracks under Shantigodu village and took into custody Shafiq and Razik. During interrogation, the duo informed about Mohammed Mawaz who was at Mangaluru and will be coming to Uppinangady-Gundya area later.
The police intercepted the vehicle of Mawaz near Kedila village at around 6.15 pm. He was coming from Mangaluru after supplying ganja there. Mawaz tried to escape but the police overpowered him and took him into custody.
The police have confiscated unlicensed pistol costing Rs 50,000 and two live bullets from Mawaz. In the trunk of car police found 2.075 kg of ganja, five packets of 50 gm each filled with ganja, Rs 330 cash, pan card, ATM card of an individual pertaining to Bank of Baroda, 10 ATM cards, visiting cards, steel sticks, Mobile phones worth Rs 5,000, cigar lighter in the shape of pistol, tablets and car used for the crime. The total value of the confiscated goods is Rs 5.86 lac.
The operation was carried out by woman SI Nasreen Taj Chattaraki and police personnel of city police station under the guidance of Puttur city police inspector Sunil, directed by DK SP Hrishikesh Sonawane and DySP Dr Gana P Kumar.
