Mangaluru, May 24: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister instructed to form war rooms in all taluks of the district that function 24x7 to face any calamity that might arise during monsoon.
Sunil Kumar spoke in the progress meeting that was called in wake of monsoon and the visit of chief minister Basavaraj Bommai to district on June 1.
He said, “With regards to steps to be taken to deal with monsoon, Bommai has already held discussion with district administration. War rooms should have telephones and concerned officials. Compensation release should be done immediately. Charmadi, Shiradi and Sampaje Ghats should be inspected by DC and CEO of ZP. If necessary measures to be taken after discussing the issues with PWD minister and Hassan deputy commissioner.
“Sign boards have to be placed at spots where NHAI work is going on to avoid accidents. Necessary action is needed for the water accumulation on roads to be cleared. If the sign boards are damaged, they should be re-installed.
“Work of closing the potholes on roads needs to be done quickly with the help of PWD officials. If grant is needed, the same will be given. Mescom gangmen should be always ready. If the transformers are not working, they should be repaired immediately.
“The Health department should take precautions on dengue and malaria during monsoon. Awareness programmes should be held. In the last two to three years, cases of dengue and malaria have increased in Mangaluru city. This year, steps should be taken to prevent any endemic,” he said.
