I hope the new Mayor & his deputy will be far better than their useless predecessors. The former Mayor Mrs. Rajani Dugganna was an absolute disgrace to her post. She would only give empty promises & subsequently do the disappearing act. If you will recall, she had announced 2 months back that all the bye roads of the city would be asphalted within a month as every corporator was allotted Rs.50 lakhs to spend for the purpose. Except a few bye roads, all the other roads have yet to receive a coat of asphalt. Absolutely disgraceful! We should be thankful to God that her term is over!!

Dear Walter, As Council Member, Mariamma Thomas indicated, it is the efficient administration that is crucial for the survival and progress of Mangalore city under the good hands of the elected officials. The election politics are over. Now comes the unity and diversity for the Mayoral leadership that was desired by the winning leader.

In addition to all the colorful photographs, pomp and show that Ullal has produced showing the garlands, flowers, felicitations and much more, it is important that the elected Mayor comes up with an acceptance speech and spells out the policies, philosophies and visions for the future of Mangalore.

Mayoral position, in a normal democratic setting, is a pathway for future leadership as a MLA and then to higher positions in the Rajya Sabha. A Mayor can eventually turn into a Governor or a Chief Minister or even a Prime Minister if he or she is capable of the successful leadership for various future dynamic positions ahead of us.

We wish Mr. Praveen best of success in his new position and look forward to all they progress and prosperity for Mangalore under his leadership.

I think, the post of mayor and that of deputy mayor are more of decorative posts. Do they have the power to do something except attending celebrations and meetings. Besides, what can they do in less than one year. Anyway, if they can do something for the people and the city, all the best to them.
