Mangaluru, May 27: Justice Chinmayi of fifth district and sessions court ordered Manjunatha Kharvi, whose three cheques given to Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi district cooperative fish marketing Federation got bounced, to pay Rs 88 lac to the federation or undergo imprisonment of six months.
Manjunatha Kharvi had purchased fish from DK and Udupi fish marketing federation. He kept the commission due to the federation pending. He had given three cheques against the pending amount to the federation. However, the cheques got bounced when they were presented in the said bank.
Though the federation served notice to Manjunatha Kharvi to pay the pending amount, he did not pay. So the federation filed a private complaint in the court. Three cases were registered against Kharvi in the court.
In its verdict, the court said that the accused has to pay Rs five lac, Rs 53 lac and Rs 30 lac pertaining to three cases. A total amount of Rs 88 lac. Otherwise, he has to undergo six months of prison sentence.
Lawyers of Veritas Legis association Raghavendra Rao, Gauri Shenoy, Abhilash Shastri and Jayashree argued for the complainant.
