I Shot Movies here, so Why Call me an Outsider ?

Bangalore, Mar 2 (DC): Seeking to brush aside the ‘outsider’ tag, actress Hema Malini who is the BJP candidate for the Rajya Sabha poll slated for March 3, made a fervent plea to BJP legislators to vote for her. Addressing a party legislature party meeting which lasted for less than half an hour, Hema spoke about her links with Karnataka and tried to build a rapport with the legislators.

Her rival Dr K. Marulasidappa, who is supported by the Congress and JD(S), is a Lingayat—a community which overwhelmingly backed the BJP in the last Assembly elections. With the Opposition trying to make it a local-versus-outsider tussle in a bid to improve the chances of Dr Marulasiddappa, a well known writer and academic, Hema did her best to re-establish her Karnataka connection and said: “Many of my films were shot here. Since I am an artiste, I have helped many people. I was nominated to the Rajya Sabha and during my stint, I contributed a lot to the field of art and culture. In fact, my father wanted to settle in Bengaluru, which did not happen. So, I am not an outsider, please vote for me.”

She reportedly read out a prepared speech while addressing the MLAs. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa who was present, promised her that the party would ensure her a smooth victory. After the meeting was over, legislators were seen standing next to Hema to get photographed with her.

Talking to reporters after the meeting the actress spoke in the same vein and said: “As part of the BJP team, I toured several constituencies in the 2008 Assembly elections and campaigned for party candidates. I can recognise many of them. Please don’t call me an outsider. If I get elected from here, I will certainly work for the state.”

She declined to react to the comments made by noted theatre personality, Girish Karnad who had called her ‘dumb.’ The BJP MLAs have been directed to reach the Chief Minister’s chamber at 9 am on Thursday where they will have breakfast before going to cast their votes, sources in the party said.

@Jossey Saldanha, Mapusa, Goa, I believe she has already answered whatever things she has to be furnished at the time of filing the nomination otherwise Election Commission would have rejected her nomination. it is not that she has to answer to the questions raised each and every reader of whatever news portal. it is your responsibility to obtain whatever details you want u want to know about her from what she has furnished, for which we have the Right to Information Act. And for the question of what religion she follows, religion is not a factor to decide from which state or place a person should contest, as our constitution does not give much importance to that. The column to record the religion we had in our passport earlier, was excluded long back.

An Indian can contest any where in India but some serious questions need to be answered.
    1. Who is SOINA GANDHI – What is her religion?
    2. Is she married? – if yes why is she using her maiden name?
    3. India is a free country and any Indian can convert to any religion of their choice – Is she scared of using her real name or is she trying to fool the hindu voter?
    4. She has been a member of LOKA Sabha for many years – What are her achievements?
    5. What family values does she have? – She has already broken up one home.
    6. Why INDIA? – what objectives does she have for INDIA?
    7. Why is she being nominated from INDIA– Don’t we have any suitable candidates from INDIA?
    8. Will a INDIANS be allowed to contest in ITALY with their VATICAN support?
    9. Is Your PUPPET IS under pressure from CONGRESS High Command to accept ITALIAN?
    10. What is the Trade off?

I feel most of the comments are made just for the sake of commenting something, either they dont know the facts or pretending that they dont know, just to bluff some foolishness. Since madam italia is married to an indian, she can contest anywhere in india, but for a born indian, she has to get married to a Kannadiga, to contest for the election in karnataka. i doubt whether India is within the boundary of Karnataka or the other way around.

@Ivor, Mangalore first and foremost would like to say that Karnataka is in india and Hema Malini is an Indian. So she has the right to contest the elections from any part of India. Also did you forget that even MMS got elected from Assam. Was he born in Assam?

Wow, what a day has come in India. First of all, we say that we are Indians and we can go and work anywhere or live anywhere in India, when a party in Maharastra opposes outsiders, but when someone wants to stand in an election, then people start thinking that why should i vote for him/her cos she is an outsider. Indira Gandhi fought the election from Chikmaglur in Karnataka in 1978, was she a Kannadiga. No, but why all the fuss about Hema Malini not being a Kannadiga. Also dint Sonia win from Bellary in 1999. She wasnt a Kannadiga either. There are lot more examples guys. Also people who talk bad about politics, try joining it and if u cant, then let us not talk. Do the talking by voting, elect the right candidate, again the right candidate for you may not be the right candidate for someone else... So we need to accept whoever wins.. In India, If being an Indian is an outsider, then the days of outsiders ruling india is not far...

Friends, those opposing Hema Malini as outsider in Karnataka should remember that many Kannadigas have made other states their home too. FYI the popular Tamil cinema actor, dancer and choreographer Prabhudeva is a Lingayat born in Mysore settled in Chennai, the infamous Kalmadi is originally from `namma Mangalooru` settled in Pune and so many people frm South Kanara are settled in Mumbai since many decades. If Kannadigas want to oppose outsiders to the state then they should be prepared for similar treatment from other states.

    1. One who attempts to flex intellect that does not exist within his or her own mind.

    2. Can probably be found with a thesaurus in hand, while in a chat room, looking up new insults that are synonymous with "stupid" in order to boost his or her own undeserved ego.

    3. Typical cases of pseudo-intellectualism involve pre-pubescent 15 year olds that think they have everything figured out, including, but not limited to: life, religion, politics, education, and sex. Ironically, they have never quite experienced either of the aforementioned.

    4. Pretends he or she has an opinion.

    5. Posseses a severe tendency to blindly and wholeheartedly believe any bullshit they hear, only to subsequently regurgitate the misinformation to anyone they see in an asinine attempt to appear more intelligent than a used, broken condom.

    6. Should the victim of the verbal onslaught happen to have a differing opinion, the pseudo-intellectual will revert to his or her thesaurus and insult the opposition with words he or she never knew existed, and probably cannot even pronounce.

    7. Annoyingly and constantly refers to the word antidisestablishmentarianism, as if knowledge of said word defined his or her illegitimately high intelligence quotient.

    8. Typically a hypocrite creates many, many contradictions. Most online grammar/spelling Nazis can relate.

    9. Always ends a bullshit "argument" with, "I win, so stfu." Win what, dipshits? Your opinions weren't fact in the first place.

Yeddyurappa wasn't for this candidate either, but Yeddyurappa doesn't have much say right now because he is neck-deep in scandals... blame it on the system, the practice of electing filmstars to political office for which they are not really suited...
