Puttur, May 30: A man who was accused in a case of theft dating back to 2002 was arrested by the city police on May 28, 2022, 20 years after the crime took place.
Chennakeshava alias Suryaraj, a resident of Swamy compound, Nehru Nagar Puttur now residing at VGP Murfinagar, Perambolapuram, Paleyamkotti, NGOA Colony, Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, is the person arrested by the police.
According to the details of the case on the intervening night of June 10, 2002 and the morning of June 11, 2002 thieves broke into the petty shop of Damodara Gowda, a resident of Patte Mane Kudmaru at Padil and stole items of daily use worth Rs 1500.
A case was filed in this regard and four accused were arrested in the case. Out of this three accused got released by the court. Chennakeshava was absconding since the crime occurred in 2002.
The court took out an arrest warrant on the absconding accused and nominated Parameshwara Neya of the station to apprehend Chennakeshava.
Accordingly, H C Parameshwara Neya collected information about the present whereabouts of the accused and arrested him from his present address at Tamil Nadu.
Head constables Jagadeesh and Keshava assisted H C Parameshwara in arresting the accused at 8 pm on May 28. He was produced to court on May 30.
The operation was carried out under the order of sub inspectors Rajesh and Nasreen Taj and directed by police inspector Sunil Kumar.
