Mangaluru, May 30: The police have arrested eight out of the 12 accused students of a private college in the city for allegedly attempting to murder a youth of the same institute over some issue that occurred during a cultural programme in the campus.
According to a complaint filed by Shabab K (21), a native of Kerala now residing at Flat no 001, Hill Crest Apartment in Chilimbi in the city, 12 youths barged into his apartment on the night of May 28 with lethal weapons. Afreesh, one of the accused, abused the complainant and also threatened him with life. Another accused, Sheikh Mohiuddin swung the wicket in his hand in a bid to hit the head of the complainant. However, the complainant was rescued as his friend Shibil pulled him aside. Other gang members urged accused Afreesh and Mohiuddin to beat complainant Shahab.
Police have arrested Mohammed Afreesh (21), Sunaif (21), Sheikh Mohiuddin (20), Ibrahim Raji (20), Mohammed Sinan Abdulla (21), Mohammed Asham (21), Mohammed Afam Aslam (20) and Mohammed Syed Afreed (21), all students of a private college in Balmatta in city.
It is said that a friction that occurred between the complainant and assailants at the cultural programme that was held at the Deralakatte campus of the same college on May 28 at 4.30 PM is the reason behind this attack.
Search is on for the four accused who are absconding. A case in this connection is registered in Urwa police station.
