Bangalore: Hema Malini Elected to Rajya Sabha

Bangalore, March 3 (IANS) Veteran Bollywood actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee Hema Malini was Thursday elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.

She defeated noted Kannada writer K. Marulasiddappa who contested as an independent with the support of the opposition Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S). The actor won by 106 votes to 94.

The ruling BJP has 106 members, including speaker, in the assembly while Congress-JD-S together have 97.

The poll was held to fill the vacancy created following the death of M. Rajashekara Murthy of the JD-S last December.

Hema Malini would be a member till April, 2012, when Murthy's term would have expired. She was a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha 2003-09.

Indira Gandhi is a legend. A finest lady politician the world has ever seen. Don't you compare her with "Basanti Tangewali"

Very good comments by Mr.Jossey Saldanha, Mapusa, GOA.

BJP supporters common thinking is anybody against BJP or its principles are not partiotic. One BJP supporter even went to the extent of saying that congress supporters are antinationals. If that is the case, then this country is filled with more antinationals than BJP patriots.

Everytime BJP supporters want to proclaim that they are more patriotic than others. Whether this self proclaimation is required if the peiople are really patriotic?

NDA and BJP can definitely provide excellent government to country. This had been proved beyond doubt by Vajpayeeji as PM. BJP is far far better than Congress by all means. Hema Malini is very loyal member of BJP and she deserves to be elected since she is an Indian.

There are no suitable candidates in BJP. Atlast they elected actress Hema. The BJP talk a lot about Italian Madam, but failed to fill in a right candidate for Rajyasabha seat in Karnataka. Shame on BJP that they were not able to find a suitable candidate in BJP from Karnataka.

I am fed up of reading the same messages on Sonia Gandhi and Yeddyurappa. Remember the Janata Party came to power using the Emergency excesses as the main issue. But there came a time, when people were fed up of the same topic from the Politicians and the result was Congress came back to power! We have critcised and insulted Sonia Gandhi umpteen number of times. When we insult her, we are insulting the Indian people who elected her. Whether we like it nor, she is here to stay till the end of her life. I was not a fan of our CM, but the constant, most of the time, unwanted criticism has made me to have a soft corner for him. Regarding Hema Malini contesting the Rajya Sabha seat from Karnataka, she did not plead for it. She was nominated by her party. By insulting her, we are insulting our own representatives, who elected her. May be Marulasiddappa is a Kannadiga and more qualified but in elections in India, most of the time, people support the parties and not the individuals.

Nagesh, do you know the meaning of the word Patriotism?
    1. Is she patriotic to India? No, she has not fought for India’s Independence, matter of fact not a single leader from BJP has fought for India’s Independence.
    2. Is she patriotic to her Religon? No, she gave up her own religion to marry a married guy with children only to break up his existing home and family.
    3. Is she patriotic to her own self? No, she still uses her Hindu name making it obvious her conversion and marriage were only for convenience.
So Patriotic by which angle – can you explain?
In contrast your Italian is much better. After Rajiv Gandhi’s death she could have fled India and no one would have blamed her. She stood by India, and thanks to her, today India is the second fastest growing country in the world and by 2018 the fastest.
Anyways, Nagesh keep on writing, you are a fantastic entertainer and very loyal to your Bharat Joker Party. You and your party compliment each other.

Can I ask if Italian waitress is OK?
    Why not "Basanti Tangewali"?

All commentators who are hostile to BJP and criticising Hema Malini's election to RS should understand that in every party there are candidates from celebreties and their role is not necessarily be defined to that of the rest.Every party needs image boosting, persons who are crowd pullers etc., So Heme Malini's election to RS from Karnataka has increased the face value of BJP Karnataka besides she is a crowd puller with clean image.Though she may not belong to Karnataka and may not be conversent with issues in Karnanataka, she can be a asset to the party. She can bring enormous women votes for the party during election.Above all every where women are doing well in every party.Look at Shobha Karandlaje what she is doing after allocation of power and civil supplies fortfolio.

Congatulations!!!. Mr. Yedurappa has made an excellent selection in this case. Hema Malini is one of the most successful female film stars in the history of Indian cinema, appeared in over 150 films in a career span of 40 years. She is a member of India's Bharatiya Janata Party and was nominated member by the party in Rajya Sabha, the upper House of Indian parliament during 2003-2009.
