Belthangady, June 2: A Belthangady-based Mumbai resident Balachandra D accompanied by his family had visited Ganapathi temple, Kokkada village here to worship the deity.
They were standing in the line to receive Theertha prasada. Meanwhile, someone had stolen their purse containing the jewellery of his wife, after opening the zip of her bag. A case under registration No. 30/2022 under IPC section 379 about the theft was registered at Dharmasthala police station on the basis of complaint on April 20 this year.
The special team of Dharmasthala sub inspector has arrested the accused Bheemavva alias Nagamma (63), resident of Betageri, Gadag and recovered a diamond necklace worth Rs 1,56,000, a gold ring worth Rs 15,000, another gold ring worth Rs 20,000 and Jumki worth Rs 1,17,500 totally worth Rs 3,08,500. The accused is a habitual offender stealing from pilgrimage centres.
The team under the leadership of Bantwal assistant SP Shivamshu Rajaputh, circle inspector Shivakumar, special team staff of PSI Krishnakanth Patil, Bennichan, Prashanth, Rahul, Sathish Naik, Shekar, Krishnappa, Ravindra, Anil Kumar, driver Lokesh, Saubhagya, computer section’s Sampath and Diwaker took part in the operation under directions and guidance from their senior officials.
The SP has announced a prize for the team which cracked the case early. People have praised their efforts.
