Mangaluru, June 5: As a part of the World Environment Day, Syngene International Limited along with Mangaluru City Corporation, and Vana Charitable Trust planted saplings of Miyawaki under the project, Miyawaki-Urban Forest, on the sides of National Highway near Padua College of Commerce and Management Nanthoor here on Sunday, June 5.
They have a target to plant 2000 saplings of 160 different species.
Mangaluru South MLA D Vedvyas Kamath spoke on the occasion and stressed the importance of planting the saplings for a good environment. Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V, mayor Premananda Shetty, corporator Shakila Kava, environmental officer from Karnataka State Pollution Control Board Keerthi Kumar, mission director of Biocon Foundation Dr Anupama Shetty, Syngene International Limited site head Ranga Rao and Fr Vincent Monterio were present.
Syngene International Limited Consultant HR Head and CSR admin Ronald Mascarenhas welcomed.
Urban Forest Project head Jeeth Milan presented the keynote address. Kishore Shetty compered.
The students who joined hands to clean the site under the Urban Forest project were commended.
Syngene has been working with Biocon for the past 30 years.
The second Miyawaki plant sapling project was inaugurated. Earlier along with Ramakrishna Mission the Urban Forest Project was done.
