Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (PS/SB)

Mangalore, Mar 8: Bajpe police head constable Subhash Chandra was caught red-handed by Lokayukta police while accepting a bribe of Rs one lac from one Ashraf of Belthangady for returning his passport on Tuesday March 8.

Lokayukta superintendent of police Jagamayyanavar said that action has been taken against Subhash Chandra following a complaint by Ashraf of Belthangady. In a complaint letter given to Lokayukta police some days ago he stated that the head constable had held up his passport and demanded a bribe of Rs one lac to return the same.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Lokayukta police Uday Naik said Ashraf was working in gulf and is scheduled to go back soon. He filed a complaint with Lokayukta stating that the cop had held his passport and was demanding bribe to return it to him immediately. Hence we have taken the necessary action and caught him, he added.

I fully agree with Ms Damyanti Shetty's comments.Hats off to you madam and I salute you to highlight this matter at the right time. It is simple truth that we are all who work earn our salary/income must manage within our income rather than greeding for illegal earnings. She rightly said illegal income must neverbe feeded to innocent family members it is like mixing pure water with dirt and no one wants to feed dirt to their beloved ones. Hope all of us learn from others blunders. We must stand united and campaign to feed our beloved family members with 100% pure income.

Well done Ashraf n lokayukta. But now the issue is safety of Mr. Ashraf, Will Deputy commissioner of D.K district take responsiblity of security of Ashraf...? We NRIs wonder cops may not paint Mr. ASHRAF as a terrorist as they did lately on minority community.

One should admire the courage of Ashraf. People don't bother to complain or perhaps afraid of complaining. General public should set up a watchdog group with toll free telephone number to complain about the corruption. The watchdog group in turn pass on the information to the Lokayukta.

Here is my 10 points program to reduce the corruption:

    1. Take higher denomination notes out of circulation.
    2. Pass a legislation requiring transations over Rs.1000 should carried out by negotiable instruments or credit/debit cards.
    3. Intelligent software which can track the pattern of bank deposits comparing to the earnings of an account holder and their relatives.
4.Limits on amount of assets the public servant and his immediate relatives can hold.
    5. Monitoring camaras in every public office.
    6. Surveillance on suspected highly currupted officials.
    7. Periodical pay increase and performance bonus.
    8. Reserved seats for children for higher education.
    9. Subsidized housing
    10. Paid medical/life insurance.

Another same incident where a person from my village was caught by Lokayukta few month back is working in the same position in village close by.
The same is the case with this constable.

Some readers have rightly mentioned there are bad days ahead for Ashraf. A case in point is the the recent accident between a police vehicle and two motorcyclst seriously injured at Saibeen junction. The crowd vouched that the police vehicle was on the wrong, yet the police driver who was roughed up by the crowd and the IPS officer heckeled, went ahead to file a police complaint against the crowd who he stated were in an "inaberiated" state.

    @Satya, @Abdul
I disagree with your comment Abdul. Where has Satya said that because he is a Muslim he has a criminal record???
Its your illiusion. Infact you, are creating a communal angle to this issue.
As a Mangalorean I have grown with Muslims and Hindus alike. We have grown up like family. I have a large number of common freinds who are ready to do anything for me from both the Hindu & Muslim community.
All of us have always lived together as Mangaloreans rathen than Hindus, Muslims or X-tians....It is the Govt and their hidden agendas that are trying to spoil the Mangalorean spirit.
The aim of the Govt.is to divide and rule.We used to blame the British for doing this and we fought for our independence from them united irrespective of being Hindu, Muslim or X-tian. Is it not our moral right to use the same statergy against anyone who tries to spoil our peace?????
Let us not fall prey to these gimmicks of the vested intersets of the Govt., rather let us fight back the Govt as UNITED MANGALOREANS.
As for the case of the passport and the cop being caught red handed, some questions remain unanswered
    1. How did Ashraf's passport reach the tainted cop??
    2. What were the reasons behind the demand of 1 lack. I'm sure Abdul if any cop takes yours or my passport for verification, he cannot keep it in his custody for more than 24 hours if all the documents are clear. Then why Ashraf's??
    3. Y did a Belthangadi case go to Bajpe station??
If you have the answers pls let me know.....

It's quite funny and unable to understand the logic. How they manage to pray inform of GOD by using such dirty and illegal collection. Wah POLICE we appreciate your courage. Now all will wait and watch the fate of MR.ASHRAF when and how POLICE will do.

WOW ! Corruption is official now ! I think its time to draft a new law to make corruption official...cause almost every person takes it and people give it in order to get the Job done..So whats the big deal friends ?Only thing is once in a while someone is caught, then its becomes issue for day or two..then back to normal..ha ! what a dirty life.People what values are we teaching to our children ? are we being good samples for our kids ?Children see all these things and figure out their way of life and Dear parents..why do you think older people are dumped or forsaken in some old age homes and ashrams..?Its lack of positive and honest values in ourselves and we have very little good to offer our young ones ? ! Think of what i have written seriously !

    Dear Satya,

You must be a Sangh Parivar supporter, because you have painted all muslims with the same brush that they are trouble makers! What makes you think Ashraf had a criminal record? There are more than enough Hindus who are murderers, thieves, con artists, hoodwinkers, rapists, child molesters etc. Don't put a communal angle to this okay.

    The law should be:
    - strip off all benefits,
    - terminate from employment
    - publish in all news media and village/town hoardings
    - a/c & recover every penny disproportionate to his income.

Hard lessons, even for the implementers, I guess!

Its bcos of these corrupt police that so many criminal elements are able to flee from the country, whereas sincere citizens are harassed even when they have to travel abroad for a job. This is just the tip of the ice-berg. If you think this is bad, the thought of all the rest of the guys who behave in this way by demanding bribes would make you throw up! God knows how many more Subhash Chandras are there in our system. They actually believe they are doing this for their children. Little do they know that they are condemning their children to a bleak future wherein this cancer will spread all the more because of their actions. Or else soon something like what's happening in Libya is bound to happen even in India. I think right thinking Indians are on the verge of breaking up and going berserk. For how long will the politicians, bureaucrats and "law enforcement officers... who are the prime law breakers" continue to bully the people at large?

    HUMBLE REQUEST TO KARNATAKA LOKAYUKTHA

Please do not conduct any secret action against Karnataka Police .Because we have seen them cleaning the toilets of SP office wearing torn trousers ,at their training period and also seen the same ones wearing 50 Gms bracelets, 100Gms chain and gold rings on most of their fingers. The police at their training will be looking like Charlie Chaplin and the same will looks like Sumo fighters within couple of years after their posting.

95% of the policemen of all ranks will be under suspension if Lokayuktha continue accepting complaint from general public and continue actions.

Ultimately nothing will going to happen,,, the system continues with much more strength.
