Karwar, Jun 10: Railway police confiscated Rs two crore cash that was being transported from Mumbai to Mangaluru at a railway station in the city. It has come to light that this was hawala money.
The whole amount of Rs two crore was kept in one pack which was wound with brown coloured tape. The pack contained 100 small bundles mostly of Rs 2,000 face value currency notes.
Chen Singh alias Manohar Singh (22), resident of Jaloor Sunatri Varanwa in Rajastan is arrested in this connection.
The accused was travelling in the train without a ticket. He also refused to give any information on the contents of the bag he was carrying. In the wake of his behaviour, the accused was deboarded from the train and subjected to interrogation as per the instructions passed over by H K Prasanna Kumar, railway officer of Belapur.
The accused said that he was not aware of the cash and it does not belong to him. He confessed that he works for Bharat Bhai alias Pinto in Mumbai for a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 and is carrying the money to be delivered to Raju, resident of Mangaluru as per Pinto bhai’s instructions.
Further investigation is in progress.
