New Delhi, March 10 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation Thursday registered three new cases against officials of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), three private firms and some individuals for alleged irregularities in grant of contracts for the Commonwealth Games 2010.

"It is alleged that the accused officials of the NDMC and CPWD entered into criminal conspiracy with private persons/firms. These accused allegedly abused their official position and awarded contracts in the matter of renovation of Shivaji and Talkatora stadiums at exorbitant rates," an official of CBI said.

They inflated the justification cost to private firms which resulted in wrongful gain to them and corresponding loss to the NDMC. One private firm is accused of sub-letting the work to another in violation of terms and conditions, added the official.

Meanwhile, another private firm was awarded the consultancy contract for renovation of the two stadiums even though it did not fulfill the required tender condition.

"It was further awarded the consultancy contract for the revised scope of work of Shivaji Stadium for an amount of Rs.160 crore, without going for re-tendering," the official added.

According to the official, several incriminating documents have been recovered during the searches conducted at 20 different premises in New Delhi, Noida, Mumbai and Kolkata belonging to the accused.

The Games, held in New Delhi Oct 3-14 last year, were marred by allegations of financial irregularities and corruption.
