Karkala, Jun 15: A man, accused of allegedly issuing a life threat with regards to cable business, was arrested after 16 years by the police.
The arrested accused is identified as Shaktivelu, resident of Kashibettu of Beltangady. In 2006, Shaktivelu had brandished a knife at Prashant Nayak, resident of HUDCO at Kukkundoor, who used to run a cable business. A case was filed in this regard by Prashant Nayak. But accused Shaktivelu escaped to Tamil Nadu.
An arrest warrant was served on Shaktivelu by the Karkala court. Shaktivelu returned to Beltangady on June 13 and the police got the tip off from an informant. He was arrested and produced to the court. He is subjected to judicial custody. Two more accused in the case were arrested earlier itself.
Shaktivelu also carries cases against him in Pandeshwar, Kadri, Kankanady, Beltangady and Udupi police stations.
Sub inspector Damodar, assistant sub inspector Rajesh P, personnel Prasanna and Siddaraya were involved in the operation to apprehend Shaktivelu.
