Mangaluru, Jun 15: MLA U T Khader expressed concern over the prevailing conditions in the country, predominantly focussing on the action taken against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other pressing issues.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday June 15, Khader spoke on the social injustice that is currently persisting in the country and why it is a matter of growing concern. “It is saddening to witness the ED coming to this level. It only portrays the inability of the BJP government.” he opined. He said that the National Herald case, against Rahul Gandhi is seen as a mere step taken by the BJP, fearing the illustrious leader and with the fright of losing in the elections as well.
“Rahul Gandhi is the strength that BJP fears constantly. Perhaps, he is not a person, but a symbol of strength. The BJP fears that his commitment, immense love for the constitution, his knowledge on various subjects and his exemplary leadership qualities is what the ruling party fears would undoubtedly win the trust of people in near future. It is this prime reason that various false allegations and remarks etc are aimed at him tarnishing his image,” he said.
Laying emphasis on the textbook row, Khader said that the Congress party had placed a request as to why the idealistic values of various saints and holy figures were dropped. He claimed that renowned poet Kuvempu and the chief architect of Indian Constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar, who were given immense importance in the books, have now been humiliated and mortified.
“The great Narayan Guru's principles have been excluded. Basavanna's ideals have been eliminated. Why must our students not study all of these? Why is a litterateur, a Dalit or any other person, who are well aware of all these happenings, not included in the committee?” he asked.
“What does the BJP intend to do? The future of our students and the pertaining issues of peace and security are at the helm of danger,” he said.
When asked about the now-expelled BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s statement, Khader said, “Why does the whole country need to apologise for the statement given by a BJP spokesperson. I will not justify the protest taking place where public property is being damaged. The action against Nupur Sharma was delayed. The government should have shown some responsibility to take quick action. Protests have to be peaceful without taking law into hands. Why could the government not take quick action and wait until a protest or strong demand was put forth to take action against the offender? The Police department has to take action against those who spread false information on social media and divide the society.”
