Mangalore: Major Accident on NH 48 Kills 4, Injures 6

Mangalore, Mar 11: Four people were killed and six seriously injured in a horrible accident between a lorry and an Ambassador car near Adyar of Padil (Kodekallu), Kannur, on Friday March 11 at around 9.15 pm.















The accident happened due to the negligence of the driver of the lorry that was loaded with some materials. The lorry collided with the car traveling towards BC Road from the city. Five of the injured were admitted to Fr Muller’s Hospital and Unity Hospital with major injuries.

Eyewitnesses said that the lorry driver was driving carelessly and he did not notice the car. They added that the car driver was unable to avoid the collision as there was no room for him to change directions. The names of the deceased are Nazir of Farangipete, Mustaq of Bantwal, Abdul Samad, Kutharu and Shabari of Farangipete.

Name of injured : Abubakker, Nanda Kumar, Ramachandra, Rafiq, Basheet, and Lorry driver Shankar
 
Kankanady Rural Police have registered a case in this regard. A major traffic block was seen on NH 48.

    I highly appreciate the responsible authorities of Mangalore,Udupi,and neighbouring regions for widening the roads and also a clear roads properly asphalted for the smooth flow of traffic and thereby safeguarding the vehicle conditions.But it is duty of Traffic Control Authorities to maintain a safe drive policy everywhere.Please take proper initiatives to save the lives.Be the heros get appreciated,get rewarded by honesty.

    You must be day dreaming. When drivers dont even respect clearly marked white divider lines do you think they care about sign boards? Sign boards are meant only sticking ad bills. Any surviving driver should be put behind bars for three months without bail.

    Strict rules should be imposed on driving. Drivers have no patience, continous honking, and competition who will reach the destination first, not only truck drivers, also express buses who can collect more people. More than the capacity they will take people in a car or bus. No value for human being. Roads are very bad and narrow that is another reason for accident. All safety measures should be taken by the authority and give more value for human being.

    DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN!
    Karavali region is now getting 2/ 4 lane roads. However petty mindset of few drivers is causing major accidents. Driving on the wrong side of the road, wrong lane have become norms for some. Just to save few s of petrol 2 wheeler riders are risking their lives by driving on wrong lane, that too close to the median!
    As far as not having wide roads, people themselves are responsible. A highway which is made for next 50 years should be broad enough. However petty leaders/ land grabbers are now debating whether the NH should be 60 / 40 ...
    It is really sad to see the sufferings of the innocent, due to the stupidity of few reckless individuals.

    Public transport vehicles including Bullet-Tankers, Tanker-lorries, Service-buses, Taxis, Tempos etc should fix compulsory Governors in them and strictly check over-loading at strategic check points through CC-Camera. While returning back most of the empty tanker drivers consume alcohol and drive very dangerously and with high speed to reach back their home-bases as early as possible.

    I am a safety officer working in gulf....as a concerned citizen why doesnt the lawkeepers dont hire safety officers for upkeeping the safety on roads, if given a chance i would rid of my job here in gulf and readily join the team to assist in improving our road standards

    The traffic police are not at all serious in traffic management which can be seen at number of spots even in highways and the vehicles parked on highways. Being
    NH traffic we cannot expect to lower speed all along. The
    traffic police atleast now onwards be serious in checking the drunkards, rule brakers and bus stops in particular. IS THERE WILL TO IMPLEMENT BY OUR GREAT REP'S

    CARRYING 10 TO 14 PEOPLE IN TOURIST CARS WHO MAKES SHUTTLE TRIPS BETWEEN B.C.ROAD IS COMMON SCENE . Throwing the LAW in thin air by the tourist cab drivers is also a common scene.
    Lawkeepers are lawless.We can expect similar accidents in many numbers untill the lawkeepers will perform their duty legally.

    Passengers who are supporting this kind of this also must be blamed. Tourist Cab meant for 5 people only. Do not enter the cab if the passengers are more than 5.

    Wish long life to the passengers of this route.

    one thing i don't understand.
    why thers is a diff. between village and city road. why govt. can not make same rules for city and punchayat roads. it should be 3-4 track each side (if it's village or city. ) go and see other country. 10 ten years also they can expend the road. but india can? ( may be all the politician should visit foreign country. ( but our politician busy with pulling leg)

    Sad news.In NH 48 in between Mangalore and BC road their is no proper caution,road safety and traffic diversion signage's provided by road safety or construction authority.For future at least they have to implement this to avoid more accidents.

    y govt cant take strict action against drunk and drive.......bcz of this many people lost their lives......police should take strict action against the driver.
    and those who caught in drunk and drive case they must be punished under an attempt to murder case.......

    I was near the accident site and the decreased were crying for help but the people were unable to push the lorry back. The people sat in front seat besides driver were fell aside on the driver and they were calling for help. If there was a immediate help from crane could pull back the lorry and could have saved the people. We could experience such accidents in near future too since many vehicles move in wrong side. Currently, the NH 48 become 4 lane road but still people drive in wrong way. Information should be passed on to the people about the road safety and the procedure to drive in lanes.
