3 Mercantile Ships, Boat Catch Fire At Dock - Rs 1.3 Cr Loss Estimated

Mangalore, Mar 13: In an incident that occurred at around 4.00 pm at Kasaba Bengre in the city, three mercantile ships and one trawl boat accidentally caught fire resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 1.3 crore.

Among the three, mercantile ships, two of them namely Abbas and Mustafa were used to ply towards and Lakshadweep and third by the name Hashmi Madath towards Kolkata. Though the fire department personnel from Pandeshwar, Kadri and NMPT were summoned and six fire engines arrived, the personnel had to take assistant of locals who helped to douse the fire in about half-anhour using the water from the sea.

While the loss from the burning of former ships are estimated at Rs 50 lac each, the burning of the latter resulted in Rs 25 lac with loss of Rs 5 lac occurring as a result of trawl boat, Karavali owned by Hameed, burning. The ships and boats were anchored and under service.
