Thus minister made apt use of the podium to immediately act upon the memorandum submitted by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry president G G Mohandas Prabhu on behalf of the citizens. Stressing on the facilities and prior preparations to consider any airport as an international one, he said that with the support of state government he will putforth the demands mentioned in the memorandum in front of the cabinet. Calling Mangalore Airport, a precious one, which has 50% of international passenger traffic, he said the participation from all segments including citizen will realize the long-standing dream.

Minister was speaking after inaugurating the diamond jubilee celebrations of Mangalore Airport at the St Aloysius College High School auditorium on behalf of Vayalar Ravi, union minister for overseas Indian affairs & civil aviation, who could not make it to the function due to emergency meeting.

The memorandum included the demands stressing declaration of Mangalore airport as an international airport, increasing the length of the runway, provision of a parallel taxiway to facilitate taxis/free flow of passengers (taxiway Apron), for installation of precision approach lighting system and naming of the airport as “U S Mallya International Airport, Mangalore” among others.

M R Vasudeva, director of Mangalore Airport said that earlier Mangalore Airport which had Rs 4 crore revenue and rupees six and half crore expenditure, now earns revenue up to Rs 36 crore with limiting expenditure to Rs 30 crore. He wholeheartedly congratulated the people for arranging the diamond jubilee celebration.

Satish Kunder, Mangalore/Kuwait I agree that BJP MP's have not done anyting for our districts, but wanted to know what Mr Moily and Poojary has done for our districts?? Especially what Mr Moily has done for our districts when he was CM of our state. Especially his hometown Karkala still there is old narrow roads. When it comes to development we have to definately appreciate Mr Kumarswamy as he developed Hassan like anything when he was the CM of our state just for 20 months. In Mangalore the most of the development work was done only by late Ullal Srinvas Mallya. He was the one who is responsible for Mangalore airport, Mangalore Port, NITK, Ullal bridge etc. Also why are you blaming only BJP MP's for not working towards our districts. Even Mr Poojary was the member of Rajyasabha. He could have worked towards the development of our districts. Has anyone stopped him from doing that??

Here we have some BJP supporters making sarcastic comments about honest politicians like Poojary but fail to say anything about incompetent BJP MPs who are representing DK and Udipi for last 6 General Elections. These MPs have done nothing for the twin districts and their only achievement is building castles for themselves.

Sometimes I feel that People may be considering these BJP MPs insignificant and non existent. Poojarys and Moilys will remain in the minds of the people for decades to come.

We are expecting the resuming of Riyadh - Manglaore service soon and the name of the Airport should be 'George Fernandes Airport' because if any Mangalorean gone on strike for any cause then it is one and only Mr George Fernandes.

ENTRY FEE/TAX FOR VEHICLES ENTERING AIRPORT AREA FOR MORE THAN 5 MINUTES?

This December, I observed some toll Rs.60 was collected for entering the airport or pick-up time more than 5 minutes. this is NOT a parking charge.
IT is really a bad practice as 5 minutes not sufficient to or pick up anyone in rush hrs. Hope they would change or changed this practice now?

I hope this plan takes off and other airlines start direct flights to/from Bajpe. I am sick & tired of the harrassment by Air India Express staff while checking-in at Bajpe airport. Last month while travelling I combined my luggage with 20 7 to avoid carrying cabin baggage. They made me to untie and tie my baggage 3 times until I separated 20 and 7kg exactly. Can you believe this?

While it (Mangalore Airport to go international) seems to be a good news, these politicians also need to follow up for a direct train service from Bangalore to Karwar, Goa, etc.
