Mangaluru, Jun 20: “Due to Covid lockdown, students had to make use of mobile as well as television in order to pursue online education. Because of this most of the students have become addicted to mobiles. Some action should be taken to help the students come out of this,” urged a young student.

An interactive programme with students was held at the Netravati auditorium of zilla panchayat in the city on Friday in which officials of state children right protection commission, district law services authority, Dakshina Kannada district administration, education department participated.

A student appealed to de-addict children from the addiction of mobile. Responding to the request Shankarappa, member of the commission instructed the children welfare committee president to begin mobile de-addiction centre.

A young girl complained that the bus conductors abuse them if they board the bus with free bus passes. DCP Dinesh Kumar assured of corrective action.

Students also brought issues like non-availability of text book, non-distribution of iron tablets, increasing of wall height of girls’ hostel and stoppage of sanitary pad supply. Shankarappa assured of suitable action on all the issues.

Senior civil judge who inaugurated the programme said that children are falling prey to narcotic drugs. All are responsible to prevent this.

Shankarappa, member of state commission of protecting of children’s rights said that the commission is working towards children-friendly system. He also stressed that police, lawyers, judges and court are complimentary to children.

Raghavendra, member of Ballari zone of the commission expressed concern that more than three crore children have left school all over the country owing to Covid pandemic. He also informed that 21% children are still forced into child marriage and the sexual atrocities on children are on the rise.
