Mangaluru: Smart City Limited, MCC plant saplings as part of weeklong drive

Mangaluru, June 22: As part of the Smart City Mission seventh anniversary, the Mangaluru Smart City Limited and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Wednesday planted saplings from Ladyhill road to Marigudi temple here on Wednesday, June 22.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Vedvyas Kamath said, "The Smart City works are going on swiftly. The work has also enhanced the beauty of the city. The works are being done emphasising on the conservation of nature."

To mark Smart City Mission's seventh Anniversary, a week-long programme has been organised from June 19 to 25, he added.

Mayor Premananda Shetty also spoke on the occasion.

Deputy mayor Sumangala Rao, corporator Sudhir Shetty Kannur, MUDA chairman Ravishankar Mijar, former mayor Diwakar, officers of Mangaluru Smart City Limited and others were present.

    Guys look at the photos carefully. There is electric pole less than one meter distance and on the other side already one plant that is almost one meter away. Most importantly, this plant just below the electric wires. Which means, MESCOM will be ready to cut it next years. How these brainless people are performing their task. Do you the can lead MCC professionally.

    People all over Mangalore are suffering in silence due to the semi finished smart city jobs, nobody responsible is thinking or planning how to complete on time. On the contrary they are doing meaningless publicity on planting saplings which hardly survive as no one bothers once planted.

    For a photo-op, these people plant 50 trees and then without thinking demolish 200 trees for a road. What happened to the tree planted at Padua college everyone knows. The pipeline people dig the plants and throw them out. That is a tree plantation. Make each person in the photo to plant trees at their house plot and make them to take care of it

    The other MLA of Mangalore, Dr. Bharath Shetre! Mr. Vedavyas Kamath, also an MLA is trying to do his bit to increase the green cover. What about you Shetre? Can we expect the same from you too. Come on, MLA saheb, please wake up from your deep slumber. This is the best time to mobilise your followers around and plant some saplings. But it is not enough to just plant and forget about the saplings. It is absolutely necessary to take care of them at least for a year or two.

    Now started charging parking fare in some new parking slots in Mangalore. Once they changed the name of erstwhile St. Aloysius college road the road is in a total mess and one of the roads were motorists are charged for parking. Looks like MCC does not have money to complete once started public Works. A big disgrace..............!!!
