Udupi: Karnataka Academy Awards for Dr Nazareth, Agnel Rodrigues, Gopinath

Udupi, Mar 17: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, in a press conference held here on Thursday March 17, announced the annual Konkani honorary, book, and special awards.

Konkani litterateur and Father Muller Medical College professor Dr Edward Nazareth bagged the Konkani Literary Award and Agnel Rodrigues of Coastal Times bagged the Konkani Honorary Award for popularizing Konkani language through 'Prasar Kongni' tv programme. Gopinath Bhat bagged the Konkani Honorary Award for his contributions to Konkani art and drama.

Dr Edward Nazareth, Agnel Rodrigues, Gopinath Bhat, Prakash Kharvi

The award comprises of Rs 10,000 cash, a memento, and a certificate each.

Ace swimmer and differently-abled person Prakash Kharvi bagged the Konkani Special Award which comprises a memento and a certificate.

Catherine Rodrigues Katpadi bagged the Book Award for her Konkani short story book ‘Satem’. This book has been published by Mariads Publications, Mangalore. Stephen Quadros bagged the Translators’ Award for his Konkani translation of poet Janna’s Kannada book ‘Yashodhara Charitra’. Konkani poet Anthony Prakash D’Souza Barkur bagged the Poetry Award for his collection of Konkani poems ‘Kat Tutcho Vell’. Both these books have been published by Kavita Publications, Mangalore.

Catherine Rodrigues, Stephen Quadros, Antony Prakash D'Souza, Stanley R D'Costa

They will be presented with a cash prize of Rs 5,000, a memento, and a certificate each.

Mangalore lawyer Stanley R D’Costa bagged the Special Award for his Konkani book on legal information ‘Kanun Mahet’. The award comprises a memento and a certificate.

The awards will be presented in a function scheduled to be held at Kashi Mutt, Malleshwaram, Bangalore, on Sunday March 26.

Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Narayan Kharvi Kundapur, registrar S H Shivarudrappa, and Academy member Pundalik Marate were present at the press conference.

Congrats Agnel. Thank God, atleast now Govt. has recognised your efforts in running Konkani Channel, Prasar Konkani. I personally know how much it costs to air the news. yet you had the guts to run the Channel just for the sake of your mother tounge - Konkani. You didnt care for the financial loss you had to face to run the channel. Many people tried similar venture, yet failed miserably, but see God has rewarded you. Anyway congrats, may your channel get more awards in the days ahead. God bless you, Merlin, and your sons.

Dr. Edward Nazareth is once again in the news.This gentleman of name and fame has been doing an extremely good job as an orthopedic Surgeon and professor of Surgery at Father Muller's Hospital. Apart from other traits he has a pleasant approach with regard to his patients apart from excellent bed-side manners. It is said half the cure is in the approach of a doctor and Edward is gifted in this regard. Apart from being a wonderful professional he is a good and convincing speaker too. He made a very good presentation when he addressed The Sodality of Immaculate Conception of Blessed Virgin Mary some months ago. His workshop was very much appreciated. I am glad that he has been chosen for the literary award for his konkani writing.

Agnel Rodrigues is another pleasant and warm hearted person. He is konkani every sense and he more than deserves the award for popularizing the konkani language.

Stanley is my friend as we both work under the banner of Our Sodality. he is an outgoing person always ready to help and indeed is the right choice for the award.

I join scores of people in saying kudos to Edward, Agnel and Stanley on their being conferred the awards by The Konkani Sahitya Academy.

I cannot forget you at all. Still i remember when my brothers father-in-law ((from DAMASKATEE) (elder BROTHER MR. GRATION)) admitted to Fr. Mullers. i was a caretaker to him.. Still i remember one night I called you for the treatment. During the rainy season you came with dedicated staff comprising down to earth nurses and took care of patient and overall all the situation become very calm, and also one of your staff also cleaned the toilet.
