Udupi, Jun 28: In an interestingly cooked abduction case solved by the district police, a youth has been awarded 15 days of judicial custody by the court here.
Varun Nayak (25) is the person who was awarded 15 days of judicial custody. On June 26, Varun had called his parents in a very fearful voice and had informed them that he had been kidnapped by some miscreants. He also said that the kidnappers were demanding about Rs 5 lac for his release. In fear and love for their son, the parents filed a complaint in Udupi town police station about the kidnap of their son.
Meanwhile, Varun was frequently in contact with his parents over WhatsApp chats. His mother finally convinced him to talk over a phone call. When Varun called his parents, the alert police tracked the location of the phone call. Interestingly, the location led the police to a casino in Goa in the middle of Mandovi river.
Two police personnel were immediately sent to Goa and with the help of Goa police, Varun was found having a lavish party in a casino. Police took him into custody and brought him to Udupi. He was produced before the court which awarded him 15 days of judicial custody.
Sources said that Varun had borrowed a large sum of money from a few sources and to repay this debt, he created the fake abduction story.
