Kuwait, March 19: Kuwait Konkani community’s able leader, popular comedian, as well as cool and composed personality, Stephen Machado, was unanimously elected as the president of Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) for the term 2011-2013.

Stephen, who hails from Karkala parish, is a very popular figure among the Mangalorean ccmmunity here, because of his friendly nature, sense of humour, and leadership qualities.  He is a BCom graduate from Bhuvanendra College Karkala, and was the first Catholic to be elected as the president of that college.  He has already served as the president of KCWA during the term 2005-2007, and the KCWA members have reposed faith again on him, because of his able leadership and unselfish service towards the community.

KCWA, premiere and largest Mangalorean Catholic association in Kuwait, organized an election of new office bearers for the year 2011-2013 on Friday March 18, at Indian Community School hall, Amman Street, Salmiya.

A three-member election commission comprising Roney Suares, Rudy D’Souza, and Jovita Fernandes, was set up for this purpose.  The election process started at 6.30 pm with the rendering of opening prayer by Anil Fernandes, followed by outgoing president, Rudy D’Souza’s welcome address.  Thereafter, general secretary, Vijay D’ Souza, read out the minutes of the last general body meeting.

Member of the election commission, Jovita Fernandes, introduced the executive committee members, who were elected unanimously, in tune with the traditions of KCWA since its inception.

The final list of elected office bearers is as follows.

President: Stephen B. Machado, Karkala.
Vice-president:   Nitin Castelino,   Shirva.
Assistant general secretary:   Mable Andrade,   Udupi.
Treasurer - general:   Anil Francis Fernandes,   Ferar.
Treasurer - cultural affairs:   Wilson Gregory Pinto,   Mumbai.
Auditor:  Melwin Ronald Monis,   Udupi.
Members' affairs co-ordinator: Albert Praveen Menezes,   Karkala.
Cultural secretary:  John Kiran Gonsalves,   Kundapur.
Sports secretary:   Dr Manohar Dominic Prabhu,   Bajpe.
Public relations officer:   Anil Vincent Menezes,   Shirva.
Liturgical services and Education Fund coordinator: Vijay Alfred D'Souza,   Allipade.
