Mangaluru, July 4: The floor of the Milagres Church in city has caved in due to suspected water flow and rodent activity. There is a speculation that a century old grave underneath that spot might have been filled with loose mud.
It is said that it is a common phenomenon in the graveyards quite often. It has been suggested that to prevent the recurrence of such events the best solution would be to clear the flooring top of that area upto a couple of square metres, pour some concrete and use a vibrator as well.
The whole flooring may also have to be removed to check on the issue as during the mass, the whole congregation gathers there creating a huge load on floor causing a possible collapse.
There are 109 graves and the coffins used 70 to 80 years ago which have turned to powder and mud is deposited in the church. Experts say there is a possibility of collapse in four other places.
