Udupi, Jul 6: MLA Raghupati Bhat on Wednesday July 6, warned the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) that they will not be allowed to collect the toll if the patch work on NH-66 is not completed within a stipulated period of time.
Speaking after a review meeting with various departments, he expressed his outrage over NH authority’s tardy work in completing the patch work on the NH-66.
“Public, vehicle drivers, commuters are facing serious issues due to unscientific construction. The huge potholes on the highway are posing a threat to the vehicles. The authority must maintain the highway out of the money it collects as toll from motorists for using the road. We will fix a deadline to NHAI to finish off the work failing which they will not be allowed to collect the toll from the motorists,” he warned.
The terms of the tender agreement for the Surathkal-Kundapur stretch is 22 years. The work on the national highway is still pending.
