Mangaluru: Weeklong no school – DC directs classes on public holidays

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 8: The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Dr Rajendra K V has instructed the educational institutions to hold classes on public holidays in order to complete the syllabus that is left behind due to the weeklong holiday that is declared to schools and colleges due to incessant rains.

A red alert has been declared in the district continuously from Tuesday, due to the copious amounts of rain that is showering in the district. In addition to drains and ponds overflowing, there are incidents of landslides. As a precaution, holidays have been declared for all the educational institutions right from Anganwadi to post graduate classes. The Saturday of July 9 will also be a holiday for the same reason.

Classes are being lost due to continuous holidays. This will have an impact on the syllabus completion. So the DC has asked the educational institutions to cover up the lost lessons during public holidays.

Educational institutions will start functioning from Monday, July 11. There are instances of declaring one or two days of holidays for schools and colleges in the past due to heavy rains. However, this is the first instance where the holidays have been given continuously for a week due to incessant rains.

Rain fury continues in Dakshina Kannada district. Red alert is declared on Friday and Saturday too.

Why this harassment for teachers especially private sector.. they had been coming for duty on all these days. It's a stress on them. In some schools they are paid less than minimum wages fixed by government. They don't even get 10000 per month. Annual increment is just 100 to 200 rupees. DC Sir please don't do this

I think it is better to close the schools and Colleges till rainy season.( only online classes) Then pass all students like Corona virus time they have passed all students. Any how the future is dark not only for students but also all other peoples.

if the teachers are doing work in school/colleges they can take online classes as well it was better but why deducting public holidays moreover online classes would have made the burden less and students would not have wasted their time.

Then, why didn't the DC mention in his earlier order that the school staff also gets rain holiday? Some private schools forced the staff to work during rain holidays and then they have to work on public holidays. That's so unfair Mr. DC

Better idea would be to have online classes on heavy rainy days... That saves kids and teachers enjoying public holidays... Teachers have more stress here as they may not be permitted leave on heavy rainy days... Anyway students and teachers are used to online classes...
