Kundapur, Jul 8: Police rescued a calf that was being illegally transported in a car near Kodi on Friday, July 8. But three traffickers managed to escape from the spot.
One of the accused is identified as Abdul Munaf. According to police he is accused of illegal cattle trafficking earlier also.
Police confiscated a long sword with wooden handle that was kept hidden inside the car in which the calf was being transported along with tarpaulin and nylon ropes.
Acting on definite information, Sadashiva Gavaroji, station officer of Kundapur and personnel were checking vehicles arriving from Hangaluru. When they asked to stop a car, the driver did not stop and turned the car to a mud road. He went a little ahead and stopped the car before escaping from the spot.
A male calf was inhumanely tied with nylon rope by its neck and legs and stuffed inside the car. It is suspected the calf was stolen from somewhere and was being taken for slaughtering.
A case in this connection is registered in Kundapur police station.
