Udupi, July 8: Deputy commissioner M Kurma Rao directed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to solve all the basic problems that hinder traffic on NH66 and NH169 that pass in the district within ten days and submit a detailed report to him. He was speaking in a meeting presided over by him in the deputy commissioner’s office on Friday July 8.
Expressing his displeasure of the absence of NHAI officials in the meetings, he said that the officials should follow all the directions issued by the district administration if they want smooth collection of toll and other works. He warned that the authority officials should solve all the basic problems that hinder traffic on NH66 and NH169, submit a report with pictures of the date and time when the problems were solved and compulsorily attend all the necessary meetings held by the district administration.
“Storm water drains should be set right, street lights should be installed wherever necessary, stagnation of water on the highway should be prevented and shrubs beside the highway that hinder traffic should be removed,” he said.
He asked the police department to slap cases on the highway authority officials if deaths occur in accidents due to unscientific works.
“The complaints submitted by the district administration and people about highway issues should be disposed of within a time period. The salary and allowances of staff that do not solve the issues within a certain period should be withheld,” he said.
“The repairs of roads where rain water stagnates in the NHAI limits should be taken up soon after rain stops,” he said.
He directed the railway and NHAI to cooperate in the setting up of drinking water pipeline works.
ASP Siddalingappa, Kundapur sub divisional officer Raju, national highway authority project director Lingegowda, Navyug and IRB engineers and district level officials were present.
