Mangaluru: Mescom alerts consumers over online fraud messages

Mangaluru, Jul 9: Mescom has alerted its consumers as it has come to its notice that online fraud messages are being sent to its customers on their mobile.

Mescom in its publication said, “Dear Consumer, as you have not paid your previous month bill, your electricity connection will be cut off tonight at 9.30 pm. Immediately call the officer of Mescom (mobile number provided) and pay the bill.

“It has come to the notice of Mescom that above kind of messages are being sent to the consumers of Mescom. On their mobile. Mescom never sends such messages. The above message is send with ulterior motive. Consumers should not respond to such messages if they receive the same on their mobile and be alert.

“Electricity bill can be paid on Mescom official payments modes of Nanna Mescom mobile app, Mangaluru One, nearest Mescom office, Google Pay, PayTM and Mescom online payment app.

“If anyone gets unauthorised message or call, complaint needs to be raised with Mescom helpline 1912,” stated the publication.

    Petty cyber thieves... Pakistani number sends whatsapp audio about KBC 25 Lakhs... All sorts of gimmicks to earn that undeserved money... Their modes operandi is simple... Try throw many stones and even if one fruit falls it is a gain... Stones are free or almost free you see...

    cheating, fraud, shendi lagaoing in full scale..recently one call saying from jio customer care appeared on my mobile phone....it showed potential fraud..i spoke to the person and his voice was not convincing...he was asking me to renew the subscription and when i asked how he said he will guide me through the app...so i said..f....k off.

    Hackers can hijack the mentioned helpline too. India's Cyber security awareness is amongst the lowest in the world. The standards and procedures are poor and there is a casual attitude on issues that need serious attention. Top management must drive Information security and governance.
