Kundapur, Jul 9: Additional district and sessions court of town sentenced Ganesh Shetty (35) to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for falsely promising a girl college student that he will marry her and exploiting her sexually resulting in the birth of a child.
Justice Abdul Raheem Hussain Sheikh, who conducted the inquiry of the case awarded 10 years of RI and Rs 10,000 fine for sexual abuse, one year imprisonment and Rs 5,000 fine for cheating. The judge also said that the victim can get help from legal services authority.
Public prosecutor Prakashchandra Shetty argued for the prosecution.
According to details, Ganesh Shetty got acquainted with the college student and had physical relation, resulting in pregnancy. However, when the girl brought the matter to the notice of Ganesh, he refused to marry her. Then Ganesh was not reachable for contact. Meanwhile, the girl gave birth to a baby boy.
A case was registered and the then Kundpaur circle inspector Divakar had submitted chargesheet to the court. Accused Ganesh was arrested in October last year. DNA report of the baby matched with that of Ganesh Shetty.
