Kundapur, Jul 9: Dr A S Kalkura, popularly known as the ‘doctor of the poor’ passed away due to old age related ailments at a private hospital on Saturday July 9.
He had initially served as a government doctor at various places. He later opened his own clinic at Kundapur and was treating patients providing medicines for charges as low as Rs 10, Rs 20 and Rs 30.
Dr Kalkura had devoted his profession for the service of the poor for more than 50 years. Thousands of people across Kundapur used to come to him for treatment.
He used to live near Unity hall at Hangaloor.
Dr Kalkura has left behind a son and three daughters.
