Karkala, Jul 12: Thieves barged into the Bola Mrityunjaya Rudra Somanatha temple in Belman on the late night of Sunday and decamped with a special metal idol and offertory box. The other valuable ornaments of the holy place are in a safe locker and the attempt to break the same by the thieves failed.
The thieves have also stolen the DVR of CCTV, portion of video footage and all records corresponding to their act. It is clear that the thieves had good knowledge about the functioning of CCTV. They did not steal the cameras but stole the DVR itself which records the act.
The rural police have visited the spot and different angles are being looked into to crack the crime.
The theft came to light when the temple priest arrived at 6 AM to the temple and saw that the door of the temple was broken. Immediately, he informed the matter to the administrative committee, who in turn, alerted the police.
This old temple is believed to be very powerful and was renovated recently by the donations given by devotees and other well wishers.
Bola Parari Vikas Shetty, administrative board member said that special prayers will be offered to apprehend the thieves soon.
