M’lore: District Jewellers’ Association Objects Double Hike in Gold Tax

Mangalore, Mar 25: The office bearers and members of D K District Jewellers' Association demonstrated at Gandhi park near Town Hall here on Friday March 25 against the double increase of tax on gold jewellery by the state government.



The protestors later carried out a silent march from Gandhi Park to DC’s office. The jewellery shops in the state have been closed down today. D K District Jewellers' Association supports the bandh call, said Raghunath Shet, president of the association and Nagaraj Achar, secretary of the association.

“The central government had levied a uniform tax of one percent on the sale of gold ornaments, yet the state government has put an additional burden of one percent on the same.

This will be added burden on the middle income group. They will have to shell out about Rs 40 per gram of jewellery over and above the cost of gold. Because of this fact, the customers may go to other states to buy their requirement of gold jewellery, which will adversely affect the gold merchants in the state, members of the association lamented.

They also urged CM Yeddyurappa to be lenient on the jewelery industry. Office-bearers Manjunath Shet, Sitaram, Harsha among others were present during the demonstration.

    Nagesh Nayak, Bangalore,in Karanataka Vat is highest with 1% levy for North Karnataka flood relief.Vat is abnormal unlike in neigbhouring states it is less and difference may be 5% than in Karanataka!!!!!! FYI Petrolium product price also high due to vat and other taxes in Karanataka.

    I AGREE YOUR POINT.

    WE HAVE TO HELP POOR PEOPLE IRRESPECTIVE OF CASTE, CREED ,RELIGION & POLITICAL PARTY.

    OUR ECONOMICAL CONDITION , TAX SYSTEM, BUREAUCRATS, VARIOUS LAWS ARE INCREASING THE GAP BETWEEN POOR & RICH PEOPLE .

    FYI, IN IT & BT SEGMENT MAJORITY OF WORKING CLASS ARE BELONGS TO WEALTHY FAMILY. I AM NOT OPPPSING THEM BUT THERE IS NO SCOPE FOR POOR FOR PROPER EDUCATION, HEALTH, HOUSING, ENTERATINMENT ETCC.

    I ALWAYS SUPPORT WHOLEHEARTEDLY FOR THE BENEFIT OF POOR & COMMON MAN .

    THEY ARE ALSO HUMAN BEINGS & ARE STRUGGLING FOR DAILY MEALS , CLOTHES & SHELTER.

    I HAVE SEEN POVERTY LADDEN FAMILY IN VILLAGES & CITIES & TEARS ARE COMING OUT OF MY EYES .

    WORST THING IS DURING RAINY SEASON SLUM DWELLERS STAY IN PATHATIC CONDITONS.

    LET US FORGET POLITICS & THINK ABOUT HELPING OUT POORS & COMMAN MAN.

    Hello Mr. Nagesh Nayak, try to understand my comments. I am not against taxes. My concern is can a poor family able to by one "Tayatha" or "wedding ring" when their daughter is getting marry? It will be hard and some tears will come out from eyes. Second thing what will happen because of high Tax people may get gold from other states and naturally there won’t be enough work for gold smiths and their family will also suffer. Last I said the Politicians and did NOt mentioned any political party. For me all political parties are same and I will appreiciate the good people and their good job.     FYI, ONLY 1% TAX HAS BEEN RAISED .

    EARLIER TAX RATES WERE 1%.

    NOW INCREASED TO 2%.

    PSUEDOS ARE HAPPY WHEN PETROLEUM PRICES ARE INCREASED BY 5% TO 10%.

    THEN THEY WILL FORGET POOR, COMMON MAN & MIDDLE MAN .

    MOREOVER JEWELLERS MINTS MONEY BY HIKING PRICES.

    PSUEDOS PLEASE FIGHT FOR PRICE HIKE BY JEWELLERS THAN 1% TAX.

    POORS, COMMON MAN & MIDDLE MAN ARE FED UP WITH THE INVCRESES IN PRICES OF GOLD & SILVER & NOT FROM PAYING TAXES.

    Taxes when focused in the right areas actually save us money. Ideally all tax money would be focused on areas where citizens share a collectve interest such as defense and infrastructure. For example, if there were no police or national defense then each individual would take what they believe were the necessary actions to defend their home and family. In a lawless environment this would range from stockpiling weapons to hiring private security. Likewise if we did not contribute tax money for the building of roads, you would pay more for all items that are transported any sort of distance (as the costs of distribution would be high without good roads). Unfortunately, our politicians have run amok and they now collect tax money for what should be privately funded programs.
    It is really sad that poor families who are NOT able to pay a little money TAYATHA or Wedding ring how they can afford more tax? Politicians will get money, gold, and living things by corruotion and bribe. What about the poor people and low income citizens?

    Taxes after taxes is due rampant looting of the bJP by once in a life time opportunity for Bjp. People of the state should cut across lines of religion/ caste and vote for a party that for the people. Am I asking to-much or day dreaming.

    Now a days gold rates are sharply increasing, again this will additional burden on Shringara Abharana, even Dowry too. Its a bad news to ladies.
