Shramadana – a Drive to Achieve Clean, Green Mangalore

Mangalore, Mar 25: With the comprehensive insight towards accomplishing the vision of ‘Clean, Green and Modern City Mangalore’, the district administration and Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) with the collaboration of various unions, government, private departments have organized a unique campaign - ‘Shramadana’ on Sunday March 27 at 7 am, informed Mayor Praveen at a press conference here on Friday March 25.
He briefed that the campaign which has the concept of Clean, Green and Modern Mangalore will be held at nine different places. He requested all the citizens and associations to actively participate in the programme.
For all those nine places, the MCC has appointed nine nodal officials and they will undertake the responsibility at respective places. Those interested can contact the nodal officials at below addresses.

The campaign is sponsored by ‘Dix Engineering Projects Services Pvt Ltd’. Commissioner Vijay Prakash said that women self help groups, NSS, NCC, Lions Club, Rotary Club, NGOs, govt. officials, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, MCC staffs, Campus Front of India, home guards, students unions as well as the public will participate in the campaign.
He added that this is just a start, while more number of people participation will pave the way for more such initiatives in future. Answering a question by a pressperson, commissioner said that if they find plastic bags marked below 20 microns in city, fine amount of Rs 150 will be imposed on such violators on the spot. Deputy Mayor Geetha Nayak was also present during the press meet.
