India, Singapore Troops Hold Joint Exercise

New Delhi, March 26 (IANS) The Indian Army is holding month-long joint war games with Singapore Army troops at Babina in Madhya Pradesh, where the two sides conjured up a tank battle scenario to help build each other's capabilities in mechanised warfare.

The exercise, codenamed 'Bold Kurukshetra', will end Tuesday and their final manoeuvring after the joint training was witnessed Saturday by Indian Army chief General V.K. Singh, who was on a two-day visit there beginning Friday.

"During the visit, the chief witnessed the joint Indo-Singaporean exercise, where tanks and infantry combat vehicles of both armies, jointly executed precision firing and manoeuvres on the open range. The soldiers from the two countries embarked on this exercise named 'Bold Kurukshetra', which is a follow up to the first leg of joint training called 'Exercise Agni Warrior' held in January," an army officer said here.

After witnessing the exercise, General Singh lauded the efforts and during his interaction with the troops from both countries emphasised the need to mutually learn from each other, the officer said.

The chief also visited the White Tiger division to get a brief on its operational preparedness. He was accompanied by his wife Bharti Singh, who took the opportunity to interact with the wives of army personnel in the formation.

The couple were joined at the formation by southern army commander Lt. Gen. A.K. Singh and 21 Corps commander Lt. Gen. Sanjeev Langar.
