As many have suggested public toilets in various locations in Mangalore is the need of the hour. The MCC should seriously think of erecting 'pay and use' toilets and no doubt they will be popular and also generate enough funds for their maintenance. They can be kept clean at all times without depending on anyone for their upkeep.

The intiative by MCC is excellant. This should not stop here it should continue.Further the MCC should be vigil on the dumping of wastes by the Hoste/Hospital/Hotels on the dumping place and all around the area in the city.Such people should be funished on the spot.It is the duty of all the public to contribute for the cleaniness of our city. The most important is that the MCC should provide proper Public Toilet on prime locations of Mangalore.

Wonderful work from all the folks who have contributed to the society in this manner. I am motivated by this campaign and wish to spend a day of mine during my holidays. Mr Mark has made a point here by taking precautions by wearing masks and Gloves. Let's all wish that Mangalore remains clean and green forever.

"Shramadana" is nothing but a gift of labour, labour for the love of your home, your town and your country. Clean, green and a modern city concept is a proven success in many countries of the world. Whether it is in Hawii or Powai whether it is Singapore or Kualalampur or whether it is Costa Rica or Alaska - everyone has tried to keep their streets green and clean and everyone has
succeeded over a period of time. This is a group effort of the people and the government. Everyone is involved. We as tax payers share the equal responsibility.

Mangalore has all the required ingredients to keep the city green.All that Mangalore needs is the group initiative to make things happen for a green and clean environment.

Whether it is the area belonging to the temples, schools, play grounds, gardens or recreational facilities, its all upto the people to group their thoughts and ideas and relay them to the people for a systematic implementation with a sense of discipline. People learn the process slowly and reap the results gradually. We all learn the beauty of progress thru trial and error. Mangalore has every scope to move forward and the time is NOW !

Locals, students are for SHRAMADANA, just visit our UDUPI CITY BUS STAND in the morning and evening, outsiders(labourers)spitting,urinating,throwing garbage etc.

Cleansing should start at MCC Building. I wish some Media person will check through end window of hallway(Corridor)where Health department is situated. There is enough garbage is piled on the terrace bellow which can fill up a tempo.
A friend of mine asked me to volunter for this project of cleaning Mangaore. I told him that I have been a volunter all my life because I am paying the property taxes of which part of money goes to health department to clean up purpose. I cannot do doule duty.
Secondly I request the Commissioner
should start impossing fines on people who throw trash on streets.
This is like saying "JANA MARULA,JATHRE MARULA"

In Mangalore mostly all use handkerchief, not tissue papers. Common cold, flu, TB , Skin diseases very common. Spiting at the side is common. Garbage boxes open!!! Using hand gloves and mask is important. Mahanagara Palike is cleaning Once in a year. What is not there in Garbage ??? Corporation must keep employees. And clean daily twice in city (stinking will begin 5-6 hours. )

It is highly appreciated and lauded the unique campaign "Shramadan" a drive to achieve clean, green and modern mangalore city organized by MCC with collaboration of various unions, government and private departments on 27.03.11 but it should not be mere one day affair just for an advertisement and gain popularity/mileage.since this is the prime duty of MCC on regular basis there was no need of such campaign but public should co-operate with them.Public should be educated and make it mandatory to understand and realize the responsibility of each and every citizen. Here in this campaign look at the volunteers with office costume,handbag hanging on their shoulders,without adequate precaution accessories such as mask,gloves etc.One girl fainted may be due to dust allergy.Students,office goers might have joined the campaign just for their publicity not willingly.All the best wishes and hope organizers will take necessary precautions in future.

Credit goes to Dr. M.V.Shetty college who started the movement 12 years back.There were no supporters. Started with Blood donation camps,health awareness camps, free medical, distribution of free hearing aids,artificial limbs, wheel chairs, crutches etc.to the beneficiaries involving health professionals and social social workers, NGO's and Govt. officials.
District Health Officers should participate in these awareness pro grammes, at least they can provide masks and gloves for the participants.

Good job and every one must encourage this type of activities. I do agree the statement of Mr. Mark -Muscat/Mangalore about mask and gloves but should not discourage. Once again I am ready to help financially such activities with in my limit if Daijiworld willing to take care.
Mask and gloves need for protection specially to protect air borne deseases like TB, H1N1, upper track infections, and virus infections. All the volunteers should be recognized and they must have a great party or a dinner as appreciation. Let me know and I am ready to help in this too. Thanks to Daijiworld and all our brothers and sisters for their great work.

Excellent initiative by MCC. This is one of the right ways toward community awareness and progress. More such services can be covered to other needy areas by volunteers representing students and NGOs. Students services in community development should be rewarded (with credit hours). Surely, people can contribute 1 hour of their time (cut it from watching TV), ... a sense of belongingness and satisfaction can be acheived. Ofcourse, some major sponsors can donate proper tools, equipment and safety/medical items to help volunteers and protect them from possible safety and health risks.

VERY SAD and very bad …. WHY DID NOT the organisers provide Hand gloves and mask for breathing? Who will responsible if they fell sick. Surely they are not immune to any air born/ contaminate diseases. STOP these kind of cleaning. Precaution should be given. We see in this pics .. students mostly from city life.. usually they do not have immune to diseases—compared to who live in villages.. work hard after coming from school or collages.
