Karunanidhi Appeals to Rebel DMK Candidates to Withdraw

Chennai, March 27 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi Sunday appealed to party's rebel candidates to withdraw their nominations for the April 13 assembly polls.

Expressing his pain at seeing party members filing nominations as independent candidates after failing to get the party ticket, Karunanidhi appealed to the rebel candidates to prove their loyalty to the party and maintain party discipline by withdrawing.

In a statement issued here, he said contesting against official candidate is like slitting the throat of the party, built over the years.

He said maintaining discipline is important amongst the three major principles - duty, dignity and discipline - that the party cadres should follow.

Deviating from the principles of duty and dignity would not affect the party in a major way whereas indiscipline would impact the party, he added.

What is wrong if the rebel groups contest ? This is democratic country and they have every right to decide or contest in polls. crying or threatening or appealing to withdraw their nomination is against democratic values and election commission rules and human rights. otherwise there is one wise suggestion. let karunanidhi and stalin withdraw their nominations and let anbazhagan and other party cadres to contest in their place. Then only things will be alright. there is genuine reason for the rebels' question.

How long only karunanidhi and their family members enjoy power and wealth in the name of party. in fact his family is the party so for. if he is of the view that every member is valuable and part of the party let karunanidhi and azhagiri withdraw their nomination and save the party.
