City to Get Two Full-fledged Fish Markets in Six Months

Mangalore, Mar 28: District in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar said that a full-fledged fish market worth Rs 92.5 lac in Jeppu and worth Rs 65 lac in Alake will come up in 6 months time and the government will extend Rs 10 lac funds for all fish market in various parts of the district for their betterment.
He was speaking after laying the foundations for the fish markets which will come up in Jeppu and Alake. The benefit is not limited in Mangalore City Corporation limit, but rural fish markets will also get this grant, he said. The fisheries department has been investing sincere efforts to avail hygienic and full-fledged fish markets to the customers, he said.
Adding further he said that the Bejai fish market work has already taken a swift progress. Due to dearth of required fund the work was stranded, he told. When his attention was drawn on the plight of fish market near the state bank by a pressperson, he said that it will be shifted near the central market. The site for the same is already earmarked. The present place where the fish market is functioning will be converted to a stadium and steps will be taken to erect a garden under a particular project, he said.
The two, viz. Jeppu and Alake fish market project is undertaken by National fisheries development board and Mangalore City Corporation at the partnership ratio of 90:10 respectively. There will be 32 shops in Jeppu fish market and 48 shops in Alake fish market.
N Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker presided. Mayor Praveen, deputy mayor Geetha Nayak among others were present at the foundation laying ceremony.
